HISTORY

Establishment ITM Library began with the establishment of RIDA Training Council in Jalan Othman, Petaling Jaya. Initially, it was known as the load RIDA Library reading materials store courses around (Book Keeping), Accounting and Examination Preparatory Course for the London Chamber of Commerce (LCC). At the beginning of the establishment of the library, the execution of works related to the library operates only in rooms located on the first floor of the old building RIDA Administration Training Council. After that, the library was moved to the ground floor an additional block of Administration, Training Council RIDA to cater to the collection and customers. In 1965, the library was transformed into MARA College Library in conjunction with the exchange of RIDA Training Council to RIDA Training College and is the first year MARA College Libraries administered by a qualified in the field of librarianship. Library Officer positions firstborn was held by Mrs. Rugayah bt. Abdul Rashid (now Puan Sri Abdul Rashid Rugayah) who graduated from the University of Hawaii in Library Science. The library collection at that time consisted of books, journals, magazines, newspapers and other publications are available in English foreign publications.
On October 14, 1967 MARA College name was changed again to the Institut Teknologi MARA (ITM). In a short time Jalan Othman ITM campuses have trouble with the new professional courses which indirectly involve additional students. Then in 1972, ITM's main campus was built on a hill in Shah Alam. The main campus, the library ITM has been prepared with a typical four-storey building designed in consultation with the Chief Librarian according to specifications academic libraries.

This library was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the second Tun Abdul Razak on July 29, 1972. The name of the library Tun Abdul Razak (TAR) is named in conjunction with the name of the Prime Minister of Malaysia. In the 1970s, despite a large number of materials acquired for the library collection is printed materials, there is also a collection of microform (microfilm, microfiche, and 16mm film).

On August 26, 1999 in front of more than 15,000 students, staff and alumni, the Prime Minister of Malaysia to IV, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad announced ITM finally called Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).

With the rapid development taking place in UiTM, the library can not accommodate the increased collection, reading room and cargo customers. Due to the existing library building can not be added space for an area that does not justify the additional library buildings have been developed around Shah Alam Campus. Now there are thirteen (13) faculty libraries and library networks satellites located in the vicinity of Shah Alam, Puncak Jaya, Puncak Alam, Sungai Buloh and Kajang
