LESSON I ~ A

Beginning Your Studies ~ What to Expect

As I said before, there is much to learn about the ways of the Witch. The previous page showing the study outline is only a starting point for all the knowledge to be had by this program. If that thought doesn't scare you off, then I suppose it's time to press on and actually start learning something! : ) The following will help you in getting the most out of the Study~Buddy Program.

At this time, I feel that it is only appropriate to share my "credentials" with you. I am of the religious faith of Wicca. I took flight into this faith on January 27, 2000, and was Self-Dedicated to the path on February 8th, 2001. Some may call my journey eclectic, but my studies tend to lean towards the Celtic path, with a strong interest in Arthurian Traditions and Druidism. I also have a great interest in herbs, dream work, studying the Tarot, working with the Elements, and Moon Magick.

While all the materials presented here are based on my own personal studies, I am still learning and growing everyday. I am a student of WhiteWitchWoman, a High Priestess who has been practicing for many years, and who has opened my heart and mind to the Love and Light of Spirit. I am also a student of Isis, who is a newly made High Priestess. Isis follows an Egyptian Tradition, with a strong interest in the Green Path of Witchcraft, and an extensive knowledge of Herbalism. Isis continues to teach me something new everyday. Both of these women are my true Spiritual Sisters in everyway.

In addition, I am Isis' Assistant for her on-line class for Wiccan Beginners, and I am a member of the Mystic Grove, which is an Eclectic Pagan Study Circle here in my local area. As a member of the Mystic Grove, I help to organize and teach materials based on Pagan religions in general, as well as learn from other members. Needless to say, I am constantly seeking new knowledge to further my own spiritual enlightenment and growth. Providing this Study-Buddy Program is helping me to organize my personal research as much as I hope it will help others in their own quest for knowledge. I didn't call it the Witch's Study-Buddy for nothing! (smiles)

The Witch's Study~Buddy is based on the religion of Wicca and the practice of Witchcraft. While Students of all levels and paths of study are welcome, this program has been designed for the Beginner Student as a step-by-step approach to the learning process. Great care has been taken to design the study outline in the most condusive manner possible, and is based on a general knowledge of what I have personally studied thus far. All items listed in the Study Outline are of personal interest to me, and some subjects may be more detailed than others. As I learn and grow, I have no doubt that I will find areas to which I will become more adept. What this means is that this outline will be modified occassionally to reflect additional material that I have learned. If you are a recognized Study-Buddy, then you will be notified when these modifications occur. To be recognized as a Study-Buddy, please Contact Me to let me know that you are using this program, or sign up for A Witch's World Newsletter. Sign-up information can be found at The Witchy Connection

Each individual topic in the Study Outline is considered a lesson. In addition to each lesson, you will also find exercises to do or assignments to work on. These are meant to help in strengthening your skills, and bring you closer to discovering the spiritual side of yourself while you form your relationship with the God and Goddess. Along the way, you will find cited resources that I have used in my own course of study, and links to websites that I personally have found of interest. It is not required that you follow up using these resources. They are simply suggested reading if you wish to delve deeper into any given topic. They are also, by no means, all that is available on the market today. There is a treasure chest of information available, both on-line and in your local bookstores. Don't hesitate to further your research if you wish to do so.

While it may seem tempting to jump ahead and read other items of interest to you, this is not recommended if you are new to the Craft. Following the outline as it has been prepared will gain you the fullest benefit from the Study~Buddy. Each section is important in that the knowledge of one topic leads to a better understanding of the next topic being presented. You will also notice that I don't make it easy to skip ahead. This is on purpose, with the reason being two-fold. First, the whole idea of this program is to learn in an organized way. Skipping ahead throws "organized" right out the window. Second, because I am also still learning, the outline is as much for my benefit as it is for yours. I needed a way to make sense of my own studies, and that's why I created the outline in the first place.

There are actually two ways to use the Study~Buddy Program. Choose whichever you feel most comfortable with.

  1. You can gain access directly through this website, by simply clicking your way through the education process from this page forward. I realize that some people prefer to study on their own, so this method is designed for the self-studier. You will notice that all the pages in this section are done in "no frills" fashion. In other words, there are no fancy backgrounds used, and graphics will be a rarity. The reason for this is because this is a section dedicated strictly to the learning process. Plain white backgrounds and black lettering make for less distractions and easier for printing purposes. There is also no main site map offered for this learning process. You will find, however, that links to previous pages will be available to you as you continue on through the program. It is recommended that you bookmark the last page you read for the day so that it is easier to return for the next lesson.

  2. Some individuals prefer to be guided through the study process by a "teacher/student" approach. If you feel that this would be more helpful to you in the learning process, having access to the "teacher" for questions, then you may wish to become a member of the Wiccan Study Buddy. Lessons will be delivered to your Email Inbox every two weeks, and gives you access to the Groups Email, allowing you to work with other students and have on-line Q & A when you need it. There are also Lesson Chats associated with this method for Class Discussions on the material presented.

This method is also available for those wishing to study "with" others, as opposed to being guided through the learning process. Through the Wiccan Study Buddy website, students can also do their own research, guided by the study outline. Study Partners pick the topic of their choice, do research on it, then present the material to the rest of the group. Chat sessions are scheduled to discuss information, which is then, in turn, posted on the website as reference material for all Club Members.
(Note: If you sign up for the Study Buddy, your Email address will be available to anyone who views those pages.)

I have great hopes for the Study~Buddy Program. It will take a great deal of time and effort to get all the study material on-line. However, I know deep down that in the long run it will be worth my time and energy, even if it benefits just one person to have an enjoyable learning experience. If that person is you, please keep in touch. Don't hesitate to let me know if there is anything I can do help you further in your journey.

Blessed Be!
