| Why should I join choir? Studies show that students who take choir excel better in their studies and develop the following significant life skills: Has the department won any awards or honors? Please visit our Awards/Honors section the website for more information. Can anyone join choir? Anyone can join choir. No audition is required. On the choice card, when you register for classes, just choose either Men's Choir or Treble Choir. To be placed into Lee Singers, Chorale, or Origin, an audition is required with either Mrs. Edwards or Ms. Blackstone. What supplies do we need to buy? Students must bring their binder, a pencil, and their music daily to class. At the beginning of the year, students receive a binder and concert music, which is furnished at no expense to the student (some music for individual competition must be purchased by the student, i.e. Pre-Area/Area and UIL Solo and Ensemble). Music is expensive and students are expected to take care of it. Music is to be kept in the choir folder at all times. If music is lost or damaged, the student will pay for the replacement of the music. Music left out of the folder or slot and not in its place in the choir room is considered "lost". Are there any fees to join Choir? The assessment covers the following costs: use, maintenance, and cleaning of concert formal wear, Broadway Revue costuming, madrigal costumes, Spring Trip, travel, audition cd's, receptions, t-shirts, and additional music, office supplies, and accompanist & clinician fees not provided by the school budget. Because the Booster Club is a non-profit organization, the assessment is non-refundable. Students learn great music, sight-reading skills, music theory, music history, and develop psychomotor, visual, and aural skills. Students also learn important life skills such as self-confidence, teamwork, independence, responsibility, and respect. How long is the class? Choir is a two-term class. Students who sing in Chorale rehearse once or twice a week after school (depending on the time of the year). What kinds of people are in the LHS Choirs? | -A positive self-image and a feeling of confidence and self-worth. -A foundation of music, so the student can have an aesthetic and knowledgable appreciation of music. -An understanding, respect, and love for music. -Self-discipline, self-control, and a sense of responsibility. -A better understanding of the intrinsic relationship between work and reward/success.
