Are there any vocal competitions?
The Texas Music Educator's Association (TMEA) sponsors three All-State Choirs-a mixed choir, treble choir, and tenor/bass choir. After a series of auditions, the approximately 480 students who qualify will perform at the annual TMEA convention in February. Students attend rehearsals and culminate the week with a "standing-room-only" performance. The musical experience is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and many colleges offer scholarships to members. The first level of this competition, Region Tryouts, is a mandatory requirement for varsity singers and is a district requirement for all students who desire a varsity letter in vocal music. Solo and Ensemble contest provides students an opportunity to select a song from a prescribed music list, memorize it, and perform it for an appointed judge. This event is mandatory at the varsity level and is a district requirement for all students who desire a varsity letter in vocal music. In the spring groups attend the UIL Concert and Sight-reading competition.

Are there any trips and how much do they cost?
Making friendships is one of the best reasons for joining choir. Our department plans several events throughout the year to help build relationships and team spirit. All members of the department, but especially new students, are encouraged to consult the choir
Calendar and attend these events. It's a great way to have some fun, make new friends, and see "a different side" of the directors! Every two years the department takes an out-of-state trip, then two years later an out-of-country trip (keeps on repeating) to a major city where students perform at a major event and get to tour historic attractions of the city. Past trips include Vienna (1996), New York (1998), Ireland (2000), Washington, D.C. (2002), and Linz (2004). For details regarding this year's trip, please consult the Calendar section of the website.

Can anyone attend the spring trip?
Students understand that directors reserve the right to determine which students attend the spring trip. Eligibility requirements include:

Any type of school suspension, A.E.P., may affect a students attendance on the spring trip. Any subsequent infractions will cause dismissal from the department.

Are there any fundraisers?

Fundraising accounts are to be used for spring trip. If a student raises monies and does not attend the trip or if the monies exceed the trip amount, they will remain in the student's  account until he or she:

All monies thereafter will be transferred to the general student departmental account. Students may not transfer money to another student's account.
