| How do I become an officer? Directors choose student officers based on their performance and attitude throughout the year. Students who are officers are always eligible, show leadership in class, have a great attitude and rapport with the directors, and want to serve the department. Students interested in applying fill out an application and interview with the directors and on camera for all of the choir classes to view. What are Departmental officers? President Vice-President Secretary Historians Librarians Section Leaders How do I move up to a Varsity group? There are strict requirements to advance to a Varsity level ensemble. Some of the requirements include the following: I�m in Chorale, do I have additional responsibilities? Chorale students understand and accept additional responsibilities are inherent in membership in varsity performance groups. Students are expected to participate at a higher level and to be challenged with regard to the Director's personal schedule and academic classes. Students will maintain an average of seventy (70) or above in ALL classes. Any subsequent failing grade will necessitate his/her removal from the varsity ensemble and placement in a non-varsity group. Students will compete at TMEA and UIL competitions. (Members of non-varsity ensembles are strongly encouraged to participate in the TMEA audition process and UIL solo competition). Students will attend all special performances and the spring trip. Failure to attend a co-curricular event will result in a grade reduction. Missing an extra-curricular event may cause dismissal from the group. Tardies or absences due to make up work will not exceed six rehearsals. How do you earn a letter jacket? Letter jacket requirements are: What is your grading policy? Choir is a performance-based class. Students earn grades by performing in rehearsals as well as concerts. Concerts and rehearsals cannot be "made up". Students will earn grades in the following areas: **** Please note: Students are often videotaped and audiotaped in class and in performance for teaching, evaluating, and publicity purposes. How do you grade participation? Students will arrive promptly, maintain a positive attitude, avoid excessive talking, avoid gum chewing, and bring their music and a sharpened pencil to class. Students have chosen this class as an elective and will comply and co-operate with the directors to the best of their ability. Failure to participate and cooperate will affect their grade, potential for advancement, and jeopardize their opportunity to remain in the LHS Choral Department. Students who receive A.E.P., a suspension, or are truant might be dismissed from the department. Are there any exams or finals? At the end of each term, students take a written end-of-course exam, which covers basic theory, music fundamentals, and music history learned throughout the term. The final exam consists of sight-reading an exercise that assesses pitch and rhythm. |
