aaa | aaa | Why are massages so important for animal athletes? Whether you are a competitive jumper, dressage rider, or you compete in filed trials and agility with your dog, you animal uses its body to the same extent as a human athlete. Developing an athlete entails building a competitive physique while maintaining a balances mind: give your animal regular massages can help alleviate muscle strain, reduce muscle fatigue and thus improve muscle building time, increase lymphatic drainage and circulation, release tension present in the muscle due to previous injury, training, or due to the natural nervousness of high strung animals. My horse/dog is just a pet. He doesnt need to compete and win. How can a massage help him? Massages can relax an animal in the same way it does for a person. Many family pets and horses have had conditions in the past that have built up as tension and pain in their body, which massage can alleviate. Some of these problems are arthritis, old injuries, poor conformation (long backed dogs in particular), and lack of physical activity, and the simple act of jumping of the stairs or turning around in a stall to can become the cause of strains and discomfort. What kind of services do you offer?
What can I expect during my horses first massage? The therapist will come to your facility and assess your horses movement with and without a rider. The horse will be brought to a place where it feels comfortable, be it its stall or the aisle way where distractions are kept to a minimum, and the therapist will perform the massage. Please, be aware that the length of the massage depends entirely on your horses physical and mental condition, and while the first massage usually lasts 2 hours, the exact time may wary by as much as a half hour. After the first massage, the therapist will stretch the horse and, if present, will teach the owner or caretaker of the animal how to perform the stretching techniques on the animal. Rehabilitation excursuses will be discussed and performed if requested by the owner/caretaker. What can I expect from subsequent massages? Although the massage technique is similar to that of the first massage, subsequent massages are usually shorter than the first. The therapist will always discuss the results of the previous massage and alter the stretching and rehabilitation program as needed. The owner may choose to employ the therapist to perform the rehabilitation program after each massage if the owner feels uneasy at the prospect of performing it. We feel strongly about empowering owner to perform these techniques, both because they need to be performed on a daily basis, and because they help to develop the feel of the owner to the muscular development of their animal, which in turn gives them immediate feedback on their riding and training sessions. What is the difference between a Therapeautic/Sports Massage and a Maintenance massage? After a few massages, depending on the severity of the horse's pre-existing condition, the symptoms will have been alleviated and the horse will be put on a maintenance schedule. Maintenance massage usually happen with a lower frequency and take 1 to 1 and a half hour including stretching. The therapist will advise the owner as to the results of each massage, as well as how to best maintain the animal in top form. What if I feel theres a problem with the homework that the therapist assigned for me and my horse? If you feel you need to contact us regarding the techniques you were shown during your massage, feel free to contact us. We are passionate about our work and are always willing to tweak your horses regime to maximize the benefits of this therapy. Please be advised that we will be taking calls from 8 am until 10 pm, Italian time. Is there a question we didnt answer? Let us know by filling out a form on our contact page, or give us a call! Well be happy to answer all of your questions! |
