My Mother
I was told by my Father that she changed her surname to Elgna from Muda, also that he had talked to her when she lived by the sea on the island of Hiumaa. (This must of been in the late 1920's).

She had an older brother that was a bullie and a younger sister and brother.
The older brother was killed in the War of Independence.
The younger brother was in the Estoinian Navy when it became part of the Soviet Union's forces, was killed defending Saaremaa from the Germans.

At sometime in the 1930's my Mother had a clerk's job with the Estonian Government.  She remained in post when the Soviet Union took over.  About this time her boyfriend, who's hobbie was amateur radio, was taken away with other Estonian males to Russia.  She later hid an Estonian singer, but someone told the Soviet authorities and she was arrested.
As the Soviets retreted they mustered 36 warships and 36 merchant ships for their escape to Leningrad, My Mother, with other Estonian prisoners were put into the hold of a schooner JAEN TEAR and escorted out.  Soon the fighting at sea got nearer and their schooner was abandoned to its fate.  Some prisoners opened a hatch and turned the schooner away from the fighting.  Later the schooner, close to Tallinn, was boarded by the Germans and they were taken back to Tallinn.
After she was released by the Germans she worked with them in the TROT organisation on stores, supply and  distribution, (what kind of war she had I do not know).

During October1944 she left Estonia and travelled on a crowded German destroyer to Germany.
