The main problem with windows 95/98/2000/nt is your activeX files,and beta and final retail versions as this causes conflicts with your display adapter files. The thing with most of these files is you do notneed to go online to download the full version as you can transfer them yourself file by file as long as you delete the version which was causing the conflict, if it is in use you will have to find the location of it c:\win\sys or c:\win then you getthe ok version rename it but only put a 1 on the title do this for as many files that you need to replace then restart but start in safe mode then you go into yourcomputer ,where you put these files then change the one with the fault i.ethe one which hasnt got a number to the same with a number 2 added instead of 1then you rename the one which is no 1 without the 1 then do this for all then you will see which files are causing the conflict in the box, in the bottom of yourdx diag program. Another problem i have been annoyed with is startup programs,the more programs you have running on startup the slower your computerwill be from turn on to when you can use it to surf ordownload etc. The mainproblem with windows is the access it allows for otherprograms resident onyour computer,you willneed to get a firewall program to see how frequentlyyour modem allows accessin and out from your computer.I never had oneand i never realised how it was that things would change inprograms that you have on your computer,there are sub programs and updaters which dothis on most programs on your computer like sound card and real playeretc,say you had 100 programs running that parts of them were used to goonlinewith or to downloadwithor for screencapture etcyour computer wouldallowthem to do this asyou have downloaded itor got it off a disk,cd rom with these programs on .You make sure you read whatit sayswhen itprompts you whilst downloading , you will save yourself some hassles inthe longrun ?!!!if you are running win 98 se you will not have tweakui,(controlpanelextension with many problem sorters on) you can getit from manydifferentsites but you would be better off getting it from microsoft( unless you know someonewho has win 98 as it comes with tweak ui on the cd-romi think!!)there aremany extras you can add on to your win98 ifyou run ie 5 or lowernetsonic(fromnetsonic.com - internetaccelerator)as ie 5 runs ratheerslow at times and its free still i think you can find many good free programsout there itis just having the timeto hunt them down???(((watch out for anyspywares)))check your cookies out every time you have been on the net (gointo windows directory look for cookies folder in there are loads of whatlook like .txt files put your cursor over them and they will say if pop-upis enabled you will know which ones you wish to keep as they say addresses) !!!!!!!
