Having tried mostversions
of windows from 3.1 to 2000 i think i
have gotto grips with most of the problems,thatcan go wrong i
fix a lot of problems on friends computers and help out anyone
i know if you have had your system not long then i will be more
help than unhelpful microsoft wait till you find out how much
they charge you, just to talk to you on the phone and ask for
your creditcard n
o
as casually as possible they dont help
much at all ,and from what i've noticedabout these shops that
sell you a system and operating system disk or pre-installed
are not much better, maybe if you were giving them £1000+
they would give you better service,but i doubt it very much,
i paid extrafor 5 year warranty and they take the MONEY want to
charge me before even looking i have upgraded it tweaked it
run it for over a year without any help fromthem they caused
me mega problems last year running a virus scanner that norton
(if you have it beware)on my system that already had innoculate
(virus scanner ) running on it and i was expected to fork out
£47 for them to look at it not sort it just look and then
after they had a look they thought they was charging me £30 sur
charge i told them to give me my whole purchase price back and
they could take it back,that changed their tune a bit ,you have
to be pushy with them its your money you have paid they will take
what they think they can get away with.
these places cos if you don't they will charge you for anything,i wasin there
once
buying a lead for mine, to hear them charging this guy £12 for
saving the contents of
his address book and bookmarks, anyone that knows a bit would copy&paste
it as a
text document or html page i have done it loads of times with no problem
at all you can
copy and pastealmost anythingapart from files which are in use whilst your
system is
on someother thingsyou can do in safe mode easily,I started with this systemand
it was
500mhz 64 mb ram, slow as a 200 mhz it was, it is now 256 mb ram server
for whatever
purpose, the best tweak i learned was this if your system starts slow and
takes more than
a minute to be ready for surfing etc.....TRY THIS IN YOUR WINDOWS DIRECTORY
YOU HAVE A FILE CALLEDRAMDRIVE.SYS(use find it may be a hidden file ,if you
have that disabled then you will see it ) YOU COPY IT PASTE IT ON YOUR
DESKTOP,
RIGHT CLICK MOUSE GO DOWN TO PROPERTIES CLICK IT IF READ ONLY IS
TICKED, UN TICK IT AND TICK ARCHIVE AND APPLY THEN OPEN YOUR C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
FOLDER SMALL DROP IT IN THERE IF IT PROMPTS YOU
THAT YOU ALREADYHAVE THIS FILE THERE THEN DON'T PUT IT THERE
PUT IN YOUR C:\WINDOWS FOLDER INSTEAD THEN LOOK FOR SMALLMS
CONFIG ICON IN YOUR C:\WIN FOLDER COPY&PASTE OR CREATE SHORTCUT
TO DESKTOP,THEN USETHIS TO OPENYOUR CONFIG SYS OPEN IT AT YOUR
CONFIG SYS TAB GO TO EMPTY SPACE UNDERHIMEM.SYS SOUND CARD EMM386
ETC ,TYPE IN CAPS..
SET RAMDRIVE=C:\WINDOWS\RAMDRIVE.SYS
OR WIN SYS WHEREVER YOU PUT
IT,THEN CLICK AUTOEXEC BAT TAB HERE IS WHERE IT WORKS AT STARTUP TRY
IT THIS WAY FIRST
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\RAMDRIVE.SYS
..OR WIN SYS MAKE
SURE IT IS BELOW ,HIMEM .SYS ,EMM386.EXE,DRVSPACEETC OR IT WONT WORK
THEN APPLY YOU WILL HAVE TO RESTART IT WILL PROMPT YOU,THENTURN OFF
AND START AGAIN THIS IS WHEN YOU WILL GET TO SEE IF IT HAS INCREASED
YOUR STARTUP SPEED IF YOU DONT THINK IT HAS THEN GO BACK TO WHERE YOU
TYPED YOUR ENTRY IN AUTOEXEC BAT IN YOUR CONFIG SYS FILE AND DOUBLE
CLICK YOUR ENTRY WILL BE EDITABLE THEN WHERE DEVICE IS TYPE
DEVICEHIGH=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\RAMDRIVE.SYS
....INSTEAD THIS IS MAKING
IT USE UPPER MEMORY BLOCKS (UMB)RUNS QUICKER NOT CACHE MEMORY DIRECT
MEMORY.
this may cause you problems if you have any loose ram chips in your
computer it will bypass it jumping into scandisk, this will cause you
no problems you just go in to your config sys and untick where you
typed it and its disabled, if you need to slow it downat startup to
say read a message on screen
THIS IS ONE OF THE THINGS YOU CAN DO VERY EASILY YOURSELF TO TWEAK
IT UPOR IFYOU HAVE TWEAK UI DISABLE START UP SPLASH SCREEN THAT
USES LOADS.I EMPLOYA HELPING HAND SERVICE FORGET FREEWARE/SHAREWARE
IF I HELP YOU,YOU HELP ME,WITHWINDOWS THERE IS NEW FILES, NEW
PROGRAMS COMING OUT EVERY DAY YOU MIGHT HAVEA NEWER VERSION OF
THIS OR THAT, YOU COULD SEND ME A COPY OF( 3MB) IF YOUHAVE
OUTLOOK EXPRESS I THINK IT IS THERE ARE OTHER WAYS BUT I AM
NOT SUREHOW TO DO FTP YET SO UNLESS YOU CAN HELP WITH THAT
THERE ARE MANY WAYS THATYOU CAN HELP.THERE ARE MANY LARGE
GREEDY COMPANIES WITH THEIR MULTI-NATIONALGREED WHO DONT
GENUINELY HELP, YOU ARE MONEY OR A NUMBER IN A FILE!!!TELL
ME YOU HAVE NEVER HAD PROBLEMS WITH SERVICE OR INSURANCE OR
ANYTHING THE MORE UN-GREEDY PEOPLE IN THE WORLD, THE NICER A
PLACE IT WOULD BE FOR ALL OF US
