Be very careful about who you have as a fixit man as i took this to the place where it came fromjust last week as i was having dos problems due to the place where i got it from running a virus scanner and installing another virus program on my computer which was(you guessed it norton which takes up loads of space with symantec and all these other configurations which norton willchange whether you like it or not)was running a virus program (strict no,no never run two virus programs on one machine as this confuses your computer and it moves files around of its own accord)i then took it back to them to sort out and it was running and i had been playing my games on no problems to have them try to charge me £47 to sort out the problem which they had caused two weeks prior by installing this virus checker on my system to which i told them i would not pay.I told them have it back and i will have my money back which i had paid in good faith for a machine that kept causing me problems(they all have problems no matter how much you pay!!!then when i said this,i had the charge taken away as i said they had caused the problem by doing what they had, this is a reputable co(or that is what they wanted me to believe)i had my computer given back tome no charge on the understanding that the next time i bring it in i will have to pay ,then lo and behold when i got it home i found that they had disabled all my vxd programs(these are virtual device drivers that work most of the functions on most computers they had done this cos they thought i would be back the next day money in hand but i didnt i sorted it out myself,you see most of these computer companies are in business to make money( i am supposed to have a five year parts and labour too.these kind of tactics are practiced by many of them,beware!!)theotherthingisthis(the best thing you can do with windows is turn off cookies in your settings and type in yourself which cookies to accept ie your isp ,email etc then there is one avenue cut off for viruses as a lot of them work and come to your machine due to a cookie directing them which was placed in your machine when you were at a questionable site or two like these ones you open and pages appear behind the page you are reading)they would have you downloading a full hour or more for a directx update when it may be only one or two of your files need updating i found this out from having problems with mciquartz.vxd/quartz.dll this file kept causing me problems not that i noticed any difference when i had down-loaded the full version off the net or my computer one day was on about directx.cpl(control panel extension)doesnt exist on any cds ive got!!!apart from dx5.cpl , so what i done was this,my friend also has w98 so i took a copy of his file put it in mine problem solved,that easy(but these companies wont tell you to do this!!)no chance of that,the longer they have you on the more they make in a roundabout sort of way .the best thing i ever done was to stop using i.e(stillkept itupdated but used netscape navigator apart from some sites you cant download properly with nn6 as not everyone supports netscape,or it would be earlier versions than what you had navigator is more flexible and composer can be used to make html templates and pages it comes with a java tool better than ms_java vm, it is entirely up to you what you do with your computer it is your property that you also if you are running on a network make sure you have a firewall as they will all get the virus as they are linked and you have probably worked many hard hours to buy.
