How You Can Help

You can help in the endeavor to choose a Michael Family Tartan.  One easy way is to pass the word along to other family members, especially those who are weavers or designers who may be interested in submitting a design for consideration.

Another way you can help is to actually submit a design yourself.  There are software applications available to assist in designing and drawing images of tartans.  One such program is available for use over the internet through the House Of Tartan.

Once you have finished your design and have a good image of it, you may send the image and color/thread count to me by email and I will include it in the Proposed Tartans section.  If you have only thread counts and no image, simply send the thread count via email and I will use it to generate a suitable image.

Some Things To Remember

When you are creating a design for the tartan, keep in mind that we are not trying to form a clan separate from Stewart.  We are in fact seeking to make our connection with each other stronger and therefore our connection with Stewart of Appin stronger as well.  One way is to incorporate some of the elements of the Appin Stewart tartan in your design.  Below is a sample of the Appin Stewart tartan and thread count.

G4, R4, A4, K4, R42, G4, R4, B12, R4, G4, R6, G38, R4, A4, K4, R6

If you compare the design of the Appin Stewart tartan with Design #1 in the Proposed Tartans section, you will see what I mean.  Please incorporate a design that reflects in some way some of the basic elements of the Stewart tartan above.
