It wasn't unusual for the late 19th century folks to go above and beyond when it came time to celebrate.  Speaking to distant relatives, I have been told of a few large festivities at the house.

The picture to the left is a photo of the house during the Memorial Day parade.  I put all the bunting up the day before, and it was a screeching success.  Several tires squeeled and people in this small town slowed down to see the house.

I got the idea of how to arrange the flags by looking at photos from the 1870's, 80's and 90's.
This brownstone chimney above is on the north side of the house and presumably came from the brownstone quarry right here in town.  The 1887 carved is quite something and in very good condition.  The foundation of this home is also brownstone as are the sidewalks, the mounting block steps, and the two hiching posts seen below.
Above you see a picture of the old carraige house complete with attic and basement.  The original doors are long gone but several horse shoes are upstairs still.
There is also a chimney and 2 locations for where a heating stove would have been.  Not quite sure if it looked like the pot belly stove or not, but there are always mysteries here.  In the attic, I recovered several goodies.  The previous owners tell me that the driver lived in the attic of the garage here.  While there is no proof of that, that would explain the stove markings.
Below in this photo is a pleasant summer day on this wrap around porch These Porches and upper balconies provide shade to you and the house, all is kept cool by the breeze from the CT River.
