| SINK HOLES SUCK ! As Lakeland, Florida. Discovered It took 10 days for the 285 acre lake, ringed by once waterfront property to drain. The vanishing lake left boats stranded and a buffet of dead fish On Pier Place Drive, where a dock and gazebo were consumed last summer. More land has dropped into the lake tp form a cliff hundreds of feet wide. So far only one home has been severely damaged since the sinking began. The sink holes consumed as much water as was available, then sucked in muck, sediment and wildlife where fish, ducks, turtles and crabs were swallowed in dramatic gulps. It's inactive right now, but how long- No one knows for certain. It could fix itself and fill back up as before when it last drained around 30 years ago. In the meantime restoring the lake will fall on the home owners since there isnt any public access to justifiy tax money to be spent. |
