March 2nd -2007 Austin Water Utility Officials who wished to remain un named stressed that yes it is an unusual taste and odor, but the drinking water from your tap is harmless and that it is safe to drink.The taste and odor are the result of algae growth in Lake austin and Town lake, likely because of recent warming weather and low flow through the lakes. The city is working to eliminate taste and odors and continues to monitor algae levels in the water. austin's tap water continues to meet all regulatory standards, unnamed city officials said.
