Yui is Miaka's best friend. She's the smartest kid in their class. One day when Yui and Miaka went to the national library, they both got pulled into an ancient chinese novel. When they got their, Tamahome saved both of them from getting mugged. Yui was rejected by the book and sent back to their world leaving Miaka there. She read the book on what was happening to the Priestess of Suzaku, aka Miaka. Miaka and her were connected with each other by their uniform, so anything that happened to Miaka, happened to her as well. Later on Miaka comes back in the world, and Yui ends up going back in the book. There she was "raped" but then rescued by Nakago. Yui tried to kill herself also, but failed. She waited for Miaka hoping that she would rescue her, but Nakago said that she turned against her. She didn't believe it at first but slowly started to believe it. Miaka went back into the book and Tamahome and her went to look for her. In Kutou Miaka and Yui find her there and realizing that she was the new Priestess of Seiryuu. Yui agreed to leave with Miaka and Tamahome, and when she went to go get the paper that belonged to the Priestess of Suzaku, Miaka and Tamahome admitted their love for each other. When she came back, she heard most of the conversation and when Miaka said, "I only came back to see you." Yui got upset and put all her hatred on Miaka. She told Miaka that she loved Tamahome and within all that...they both became enemies.
