The Montclair High School Gay Straight Alliance was established in 1995 by two Montclair High School students who sensed the need for an organized response to homophobia in the high school environment. Believing that a safe and supportive experience in school was central to the formation of a healthy, proud adult LGBT identity, they worked with students, administration and faculty to create an organization now five years old.
Since its founding, the Montclair High School Gay Straight Alliance has participated in numerous local, state-wide and regional activities promoting gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered equality, visibility and advancement.
