| The Downward Pump (n.)- A celebration intended to make a mockery of all those running around you. This celebration is performed by placing both hands out in front of your stomach, bending the elbows outwards, and repeatedly pushing your hands in a downward motion. Similar to the played out "raise the roof" movement, except backwards. This action has been performed in many MGRC races, but it was first conceived in 2003 by a runner on the DGN team who sprinted out to a lead in the indoor 4x800 at the Evanston Invite and proceeded to perform the downward pump as he passed the DGN section (this feat was even more impressive considering he was holding a baton in one of his hands). The only problem with this was that almost immediatley after performing the pump, he was passed by the entire field and ended up handing off the baton in second-to-last place. Man Up (v.)- Although we did not invent this, it has become a common motivator/convincer. Originally contrived at State XC 2003, it is a synonym for phrases such as "buck up" and "toughen up". It isn't really a term designed only for men (considering i've told my sister this a few times). It has evovolved into primarily a counter to excuses given by DK, but still retains its original meaning. "The Old Lady" (n.)- The female senior citizen who, in a legendary battle, outkicked DK at The Ramble of '03. DK maintains to this day that she doesnt exist, but if you check the results, you will clearly find a woman over three times the age of young Kindra a few spots ahead of him. Weak Sauce (adj. or n.) - Used to describe any of a number of pitiful or stupid situations, actions, etc. that MGRC and DGN runners have found themselves involved in. Gaurana Seed - A suplement intended to increase energy, extracted from a seed and taken in pill form. Similar effects of caffiene exact magnified significantly. One MGRC runner felt the ill effects of this particular product, and to this day (as far as we know) has not attempted to harnesses its power since. Donner Dash (n.) - A one mile kids' race that was attatched to The Ramble '03 that one member of the MGRC found himself eligible for (the age limit was 14). Needless to say, his performance was filled with the downward pump as he lapped the field (in a two lap race) and won by over two minutes in what has become known as one of the biggest mockeries in MGRC history. Barn Burner (n.) - A fairly new term. Used to describe a high intensity workout. Invented by MG has he did hills right next to a corn field. Nancy (adj.) - Used to describe a male who portraits less than masculine and/or weak sauce characteristics. Also one of the nicknames for one of the MGRC posse. Big T (n.) - This awesome R&B singer who sings the hooks in a couple of classic rap songs (including the legendary 'In House Tonight'). Known for his really loud and deep voice. P Fohl Roll (pr. - pee foal roll) (n.) - A very inefficient running style very similar to a prance in which the runner rolls his/her arms slightly as they bounce annoyingly. Cut it - Command used to stop someone from talking before they move to the advanced stages of jag baggery. Oaf (n. or v.) - Originally a noun to describe a big awkward uncordinated runner, primarily DK's boy Brother Ock-a-T-N , but later became known as a verb used to describe someone running very slowly without trying. Roll Horse (n. or v.) - To waste time. Or a person who finds a way to be consistently unproductive. Look at Guy - A phrase used to call attention upon somebody participating in jag bag related behavior. Man Down - To back off ; whatever the opposite of Man Up is. The Ramble (n.) - Short for the Rudolph Ramble. A classic race in the Winter of '03 filled with a variety of entertaining situations. (see story section) State (n.) - If the sport is unspecified, it refers to state XC, the mother of all Illinois cross country races. The Rating System (n.) Very hard to explain. An in-depth system that varies based on individual's taste in female attractiveness. Come to find out, some runners on the circuit have a very libral system. Kindra Pace - A legendary measurement of the speed of a run. Synonomous with a very very slow pace, almost too slow to actually be considered running. When tapering for big meets, a Kindra pace would often be enacted in which DK was put in charge of leading the pack and setting the pace. As time went on Kindra pace became faster, culmminating in a "Kindra Pace" quarter in 64 seconds. Nonetheless, it still means a very slow, oafish pace. Ya Ya - A term passed down through history in the DGN running circle that refers to a slower version of a speed repeat, always on the first one. Many other terms are similar to this (flamingo, mitsu, etc) Bahelors' Grove - Has absolutely nothing to do with running except we want to run here some day and almost every member of the MGRC has expressed interest in going here. No, it's not a strip club (although it sounds like it should be one). It's the 2nd "most haunted" place in the U.S.A., a deserted cemetary in a forrest in Midlothian, IL. Numberous unsuccessful attempts (including one time when we got a b.s. $30 parking ticket) have been made to get in after dark. It'll be awesome when we finally get in. Frizbeye - A cool way to say frisbee White T - An awesome rap song devoted soley to plain white t-shirts. Somehow, it goes on for over 5 minutes. Lil Prebeye - A baller who enjoys watching Cops. |
