I recently took a white water trip down the Nolichucky river in north eastern Tennessee. The Noichucky is a magical place. Born on the slopes of Mount Mitchell, the Noli surges into the ridge of the Unaka Mountains and cuts across the Tennessee and North Carolina border. This free flowing river is as diverse as it is spectacular. Jagged rock faces towar over beds of laurel and rhododendrom.
I took the express 8 mile tour - and express it was. I thought that I would have more time to take pictures, but the rapids were one after another. I was lucky enough to experience fast rapids in the summer that mocked the rivers pace as seen in the spring. USA Raft has great guides and fine mountain hospitality. Excellent trip- I highly recomend it. For less than $60 a head - it was an adventure I will take again.

I have a passion for the Nolichucky river in Tennessee. My most recent trip was a 8.5 mile float down the river during early duck/goose season. Great trip. 5 hours of river fun and duck kill'en. Check out the trophy Canadian Goose as well as the Blue Winged Teal in the the trophy gallary. Great weather. The only problem with the trip was my hunting buddies trolling motor got bent over a rapid, and we had to paddle his 12ft v-bottom over 7 miles. Then, one of our shuttle cars blew a head gasget on the way home. Otherwise, great memoris and a few nice birds for the crock pot and to mount on the wall. Check out the unique picture below. Its a dead cow we found in the river...... uhmmmm. |
