Black Interior Swap

In the early Spring of 2002 I picked up a 1991 Mustang 2.3L Hatchback for $900. It had the ever-coveted all black interior. The interior was in perfect condition. Here it is when I bought it:

Ever since I bought my notch, I always hated the original tan interior. It always looked dirty and was impossible to keep clean. The black interior was only offerec on model years 1990-1993 so finding a complete interior took a while. I ran into a little trouble because I bought a hatch and my car is a notch. There a few pieces that are specific to each model. The large rear plastic panels on each side are different as is the top of the back seat and rear deck lid. Another obstacle was the headliner. My notch has an aftermarket sunroof and the hatch has a factory sunroof, so I couldn't use the hatch piece. With the help of a few guys from the Corral, I was able to get all the pieces I needed to complete the conversion. The swap was very easy. Having a complete car to perform the swap made the project a breeze. I must say that the seats that came out of the four cylinder are very comfortable. These are the fourth set of seats that I've had in the car and they're fantastic.

The Finished Product

Of course when you are replacing the dash it would be foolish not too replace the heater core. I was able to "encourage" the installation of the heater core without completely removing the heater box or discharging the A/C system. I used a 2x4 to pry the heater box to move enough to get the cover on. It was a pain but it sure beats discharging the A/C system.
