Worried about wiring?

Throughout the transformation, the majority of headaches have been caused by wiring difficulties. Undestand that we removed all the wiring from each car. We basically made the 88 have a 92 wiring schematic. Tech Tip: Label all your wiring connections. Don't think you're goning to remember because you won't. It's a good idea to use numbers to recognize connections later. Use different series for different sections. Labels, tags and a marker are your friend here.
The harnesses are in parts:
Engine harness-this basically connects the engine to the rest of the car. Engine sensors, fuel injectors and more are part of the engine harness. It goes through the firewall and attaches to the computer which is located behind the passenger kick panel (see picture below). It also makes other connections near the master cylinder. This one was very easy to install.
Main Harness-this is a big one. It is the entire dash wiring and also goes into the engine comartment through the driver's side firewall and connets to the battery, headlights harness and engine harness. Radio, light controls, horn, turn signals and so much more are controlled by the main harness. Remember the layout and path of this harness as it is quite extensive.
Body harness-this beging at the driver's side kick panel and performs a multitude of functions. Fuel pump, seats, power mirrors, rear lights, trunk opener are all part of the body harness. We went from a hatch to a notch so the body harness was different. The hatch allocations in the wiring harness made it longer in parts so it needed to be modified to fit the notch effectively. Remember that options are different on each car and years have different features. The 92 harness has no fuel door opener wire and the 88 interior doesn't have power lumbar seats.
Headlight harness-this has all the front lamp plugs and connects to the main harness near the ignition coil. Airbag crash sensors also connect to this harness. Alternator connections are made with this harness also. This one is small and easy to figure out.
Tech Tip: There are a number of connectors that connect nowhere. Don't be confused by these mysterious pieces. Known locations for some are behind the license plate on body harness and on main harness near steering wheel column. If you don't do a complete wiring change over, many of the wire colors remain the same over the years so you could splice the old with the new if you desired.
