James Hetfield was born to a truck driver and a light opera singer. He was quiet as a child, but he loved music and began his musical side of him when he was only nine years old. | drums and finally learned how to play guitar. His older step-brother was in a band, playing drums, and led James into the heavier side of music. Hetfield Meets Ulrich: Through the "Want Ads" in a paper called the Recycler, Hetfield always looked under the 'H' part, where Ulrich put his ad as well. Hetfield and Ulrich met up, in Newport Beach, California on May 9, 1981. And from there, was the first steps of the birth of Metallica. Hetfield and Ulrich were, (and still are), the most greatest creative partners in heavy metal. At first, Hetfield was the rhythm guitar player, but the band needed a lead singer. And they couldn't find anybody, so then he stepped up for the role, and has been Metallicas' lead singer ever since. From the beginning, it has been Hetfield and Ulrich, which they still carry on a strong musical talent with Kirk Hammett. |
