The Defaced enters the stage as opening act for The Haunted. They used to be known as Rehab, but due to line-up changes and a new musical direction they changed their name to The Defaced (debut album soon to come). I saw them as Rehab once, some years ago, and then they played very much like Machine Head, or more likelyripped them off. Good enough, they are no rip off longer, even though you can clearly hear that there are influences from that kind of metal, but it also has a distinct thrash-metal appearance. But this is not something to wonder of as the super-thrash-guitarist Klas Ideberg (also of the Darkane/Terror 2000-fame) is handling the six-string here, and the drummer is Henry Ranta (also of the Soilwork/Terror 2000-fame). They make a real good show, for being one the first gigs with the new The Defaced. But the soundquality of the gig isnt that good, but I wonder if I really can blame that on the band. As I can recall NO band what so ever have good soundquality on The Tivoli-stage. This place just isnt built for  concerts. The acoustic of the building is really bad.
Then its time for The Haunted to enter the stage, with The Crown-fame Marcus Sune Sunesson on session-guitar (as Anders Bjrler has quit the band). Well, what to say? The soundquality is actually pretty good to be in The Tivoli, but wellwhat can one ask for? Anyway, I think The Haunted is making a good appearance due to the fact that theyve all been sick for a while, and singer Marco Aros voice isnt the best one youve heard. But they grab a hold of the situation and make and effort of giving what theyve got to give, and manage to get the, even though small one (about 60 people), audience going wild (at least all the kids in the front). They play all the given hits, like Hollow ground, Hate song and so on, and they also play 2 songs that they never have done live before, from the latest album.

You can tell that these guys really have fun on stage. In between the songs, someone starts to play one song, and then the rest follows. And now were talking old heavy metal songs. The Haunted is fun to watch live, even though I am sure that they have a lot more to give, I guess I just caught them at a bad night!

The Haunted
D.A.D and The Rockets at The Tivoli in Helsingborg, Sweden 4/4-02. Rate: 6/10
The Rockets play in the vein of bands like The Hellacopters, this didnt interest me at all, why I hang out in the bar with my friends instead. Theres the reason why I dont review their gig.
But then they enter the stage, the band everyone paid expensive money to see, D-A-D. The mood of the band seems to be high, at least on singer Jesper Binzer. But even though they seem to be happy to playing here, the show you expect from a band like this, is unfortunately left at home in Denmark. The only kind of show you get is classics like bassplayer standing on the drums. Thats what you get! The choice of songs then? Well, D-A-D have a long carrier behind themselves, and a lot of albums to pick songs from. Sorry to say but they concentrate on the latest album, which are more softer, and especially from the latest album named Soft Dogs. The heavy filled club is more in a cosy-place than in a rock-concert! The only time the audience really wakes up is when D-A-D plays their older songs, like Rim Of Hell, Reconstrucdead, Bad Craziness and Sleeping My Day Away. Actually, in the later one, Jesper Binzer stops singing and let the audience do the job, which they did without any complaints. I should say that the things that you really became glad for, was that the band was tight, and the sound was actually really good (The Tivoli isnt known for being a place with great sound!). And those few songs that made the audience go wild.

It's shamefully few that found their way down to Club Rockers this Saturday evening. Evergrey sure deserve a bigger audience. Strange enough it only seems to be in Sweden were Swedish metal isn't appreciated.

Opening for them is Mrs Whore from Kping and when they enters the stage it quieter than a tomb at Club Rockers. After the intro there's a 30 seconds silence which makes the intro useless and the atmosphere reeks of youth recreation center. Ok, Mrs Whore is not all bad. I like their style of dark and gloomy metal. The low register female vocals with an even darker harmony makes me think of Drain Sth. Mrs Whores music isn't very far from Drain Sth either, maybe some more industrial influences but it still gets boring in the long run.

It felt like an eternity before Evergrey finally entered the stage and when they did the roof lifted, (that could have been useful for Tom S Englund - guitar and vocals since his hair constantly got stuck in the roof) both because of the bubbling energy coming from the stage and the volume. Dark, majestic and with a slight feel of goth Evergrey served a nice mixture of old, new and rare material. Henrik Danhages guitar playing is spinechilling. Shamefully I don't know much about their albums before In Search For Truth but I promise to do my homework better for the next time
Anyway, I recognized about 50% of the songs from that album. One magic moment at this concert was a 9 minutes acoustic piece, only piano and vocals only released as extra song in Japan. Could have been the soundtrack to any heartbreaking drama movie. It was so beautiful and appreciated by the diehard fans in the front row. Even if the crowd in front of the stage wasn't to big, less than 100 people they sure gave it all, seemed at least like the double.

After 50 minutes Evergrey left the stage for a few seconds just to come back for an extranumber which surprisingly wasn't The Masterplan and left again. But the audience wouldn't give in that easy since they most of the time between songs have been chanting "The Masterplan". After a minute or two the longhaired bunch was back onstage making the audience promise to hang around after the show and share a beer with the band, if they did Tom said on his so charmful Gothenburg accent, they would play one more and guess what??? Sure "The Masterplan", people went crazy and I know it's hard to imagine that so few people can make a venue boil but it sure did!

That Club Rockers isn't the best concert hall is a fact, almost no stage (it's very low) which makes it impossible to see anything unless you're in the front row, PA speakers standing directly on the floor forcing the volume painfully high but that's the only bad thing I can say about the evenings event, it was just to loud.

It's still strange I think that not more people explore what the Swedish metal market has to offer. I doubt that any Hammerfall fan would dislike Evergrey if they just gave them a chance. Ok, Evergrey don't have the same easy sing-a-long chorus lines but they do have a cool stage outfit and their music is powerful, melodic and heavy and to find a better singer than Tom S Englund can't be easy.
