Hey, I can't write long, but I wanted everyone who can to check out this excellent novel I just read.  It is called Rule of Bone by Russell Banks.  It is the completely engrossing story of a teenaged runaway and his lessons in life and love and peace.  It is incredibly moving yet simple and real.  Told completely from a 14 year old's perspective, this novel takes you from the drudges of lowclass American  suburbia to the natural glory of Jamaica while holding on to a child's innocence even in times of complete corruption.  The critics call this novel a modern "Catcher in the Rye," but to say that minimizes its uniqueness and vibrance.  Really.  please please please read this one.
"I used to worry about that.  I don't worry about it very much any more.  At least I'm still in love with Yorick's skull.  At least I always have time enough to stay in love with Yorick's skull.  I want an honorable goddam skull when I'm dead, buddy.  I hanker after an honorable goddam skull like Yorick's.  And so do you, Franny Glass.  So do you, so do you....Ah, God, what's the use of talking?  You had the exact same freakish upbringing I did, and if you don't know by this time what kind of skull you want when you're dead, and what you have to do to earn it-I mean if you don't at least know by this time that your an actress you're supposed to act, then what's the use of talking?"
