| saw the human stain. it was beautiful and wonderful. probably my favorite performance by anthony hopkins in years. I really appreciate a movie that can get me beyond my irritation with old men who fuck young women to feel young and see that they are both human characters with back stories, hearts and pain. i highly recomend the human stain. |

| A really great movie is The Crying Game. The Crying Game (1992)was directed by Neil Jordan (one of my faves) and stars Stephen Rea, Forrest Whitaker, Miranda Richardson and Jaye Davidson. Davidson protrays the very fragile yet self assured character Dill. As anyone who has seen the film knows, Dill is different. When the movie was released (I was 14), I became quite obsessed with Mr. Davidson. I had pictures of him posted all over my room and just absolutely loved him. I don't think I was infatuated in a sexual way, I just really wanted to be his best friend. My mom, of course, was confounded by this weirdness, but fortunately let it go and I got over the Jaye Davidson period. Any way, I watched it on Bravo (dumb edits) the other night and I was reminded of what a great movie it is. The Crying Game delves into the notions of loyalty and love in a way few films have. If you haven't seen it, do so. And if anyone else was obsessed with Jaye Davidson, please let me know, so we can start a support group. |
