This poem is a response to the interview with Merle Collins and the videotape that I watched. In a computer thesaurus program I use, one of the definitions for excitement was "a tempest in a teapot." Merle Collins exudes quiet excitement, if excitement can be "quiet."

Tempest in a Teapot

Sparkling brown eyes
Slight hint of mischief
Inexhaustible smile
Merle is a tempest…
A tempest in a teapot.

Her cup has overflowed…
Overflowed with knowledge…
Knowledge of writing and language,
Of language and family.

Enlightening….
Opening the mind
Introducing the mind
To experiences…
To feelings…
To wisdom…

To knowledge.
