Name: Cloud Strife Short Background: More about Cloud (SPOILERS!):
Cloud was born in a village called Nibelheim, a place that's just beside Mt. Nibel. He grew up there but is almost always left out by the other kids. He tried to make friends, but it seems as though that he sees the other kids as strange ones. He felt different among all of them, like he was special. But still, being a kid, he needed a friend. He had his eyes on his nextdoor neighbor, Tifa Lockhart, whose house was just next to him, and whose window was directly aligned to Cloud's room window as well. Every now and then he would look at her through her window and just watch her. One day, Tifa's mother died while passing through Mt. Nibel. Tifa was really upset about this and wanted to see her mother again. She set off to Mt. Nibel, followed by her friends. Cloud was following the four as well. Tifa's three friends chickened out along the way and left Tifa. Cloud was still brave enough to follow her, just curious about what she was doing. On the way to the other side, the bridge broke and the two came falling down the cliff. Cloud was able to wake up with only scarred knees but Tifa was in a coma. Cloud got the blame of Tifa's condition. He was quite upset about this, and waited 'till Tifa was better. He then asked her to meet him by the well. By the time he was there, Tifa was late. He had almost given up on her, thinking that she hated him. But Tifa came and they talked. Cloud told her that he would join SOLDIER, a military group made by the Shinra Corp. He also said that he would make it in first-class. Tifa was a bit upset about him leaving and asked him to promise her that, if ever she gets in trouble, he would come to save her. She said that once in a while, she wanted her knight to save her. Cloud agreed and the conversation's done.
But Cloud never made it into SOLDIER, he wasn't strong enough. The one who made it into SOLDIER first class was Zack, Aeris' boyfriend and Cloud's best friend I believe. They were then assigned on an assignment in Mt. Nibel, meaning that they'll go past Nibelheim to get there. On the way, Zack told Cloud to take off his mask for a while and so he did. But when they got to the gate, Cloud saw Tifa sitting on the village entrance and took off to wear his mask again. Tifa was there in the fist place because she heard that some guys from SOLDIER will be coming and she hoped that Cloud was who they were talking about. When she looked up to see only Sephiroth and Zack, with two Shinra soldiers, she cried and ran off.
Cloud was still upset for not being able to talk to Tifa, but he was ashamed to show himself since he didn't make it, and thought that Tifa wouldn't like to be with a weak person. So he stayed hidden in his Shinra mask. The next day, they set off for Mt. Nibel, only to find out that Tifa was their guide. Cloud still didn't tell Tifa it was him. One villager asked for Sephiroth's picture and took a pic of Sephiroth, Tifa and Zack together.
In the reactor, Sephiroth finds out how members of SOLDIER are made and thought that he was different from everybody. He then goes ballistic thinking that he was not a real human being and begins to hit anything. He attacks everyone in the reactor, including Tifa's dad. Tifa finds out about her dead father and goes mad as well. She picked up Sephiroth's sword and attacked him. But Sephiroth took the sword from her and attacked her, causing a severe cut on her front body. Cloud came and saw Tifa and carried Tifa to safety. He was really sad about it, thinking that Tifa might die and went to talk to Zack who tells him to kill Sephiroth. He grabs a sword and does so. Cloud then came talking about his sadness with Sephiroth, that he should bring Tifa and all his loved-ones back. Sephiroth quickly shoved Cloud away and brought Jenova's head with him. But on his way out, Cloud came after him. Sephiroth thrusted Cloud with his sword and hit him in the shoulder, but Cloud used this sword thrust to push Sephiroth into the Mako below, killing Sephiroth by doing so.
After that, Cloud fainted. Zangan, Tifa's martial arts teacher, came into the reactor. He brought Tifa with him. He wasn't able to bring back Cloud and the others since Hojo(?Gast?) and some other Shinra soldiers came to take them. Cloud and Zack were put in these green containers. One time, a man brought them food but as he opened Zack's capsule, his face met with Zack's fist. The guy passed out and Zack helped Cloud out of his capsule. He carried him out of the reactor and out of Nibelheim. They hitched a ride towards Midgar. On the way, Zack planned to go to Aeris' house, but realizing that her mother was there too, he changed his plans. He decided that he and Cloud would become mercenaries. Zack also gave Cloud part of his clothing since he was still in the Shinra uniform. Once they were out of the ride, Zack carried Cloud again towards Midgar. But on the way, some men from Shinra came. Zack was able to kill of the first batch, but as he came to check if Cloud was okay, he was caught off-guard and was shot. The men made sure he was dead by shooting him a couple of times more (and I hated that part *sniff* Zack was...well, bouncing off the ground with the intensity, and some people think he's alive? *sniff*). They decided to leave Cloud alone since he was in mako poisoning and would die eventually. But Cloud somehow lived and saw Zack's dead body. He took his sword and went to Midgar.
Cloud boarded a train to one of the sectors. He again fainted inside and the conductor found out that he wasn't there to meet anybody. The conductor decided to leave Cloud alone, but before he could do that, Tifa came. She saw the conductor and the man with him. It was just the right time for Cloud to open his eyes and see Tifa. At first, Tifa didn't recognize him, but after Cloud called her name for a couple of times, Tifa was able to remember and called his name as well. She then invited him with her in her bar and that was the time where Cloud told her about his story. Tifa was scared with him at first since he knew things he shouldn't know. But after finding out that he was now a mercenary and was going away looking for a job, she was afraid to lose him again so she talked to Barret, leader of the AVALANCHE group to hire Cloud. And that was where the story starts ^_^
