Part One
Jinix Memorial Gardens next morning
The sky was overcast but held no threat of rain. It seemed that the climate was in sync with the solemnness of the occasion. The garden itself was located north of the government center surrounded by a ten-foot white stone-like lattice fence which took up approximately a city block. Plants, flowers, shrubs and vegetation were in full bloom in a rainbow of colors and hues, arranged in several levels that took up three sides of the area. Paths and benches were located throughout the garden. Upon entering the garden, there was an amphitheater style seating arrangement that was in front of, yet below the gardens with paths leading up the garden with a podium located in the center. There was a large black stone table with numerous white markers with red flag type material attached, arranged in several stacks. The group was once again reunited at the entrance of the garden, along with newcomers. All had been invited to pay tribute to those who had lost their lives due to the recent conflict. All the Exoians from the youngest to the oldest were dressed in black attire. The only difference with the Jedi was that they had the hoods of their cloaks up. Archer, Trip, Malcolm and Hoshi were given black attire as well. Brief instructions had been given to the humans regarding this particular Exoian ritual. Seeing that everyone had arrived, Ryvinia and Pallaton led the attendees into the garden. Ryvinia stood at the podium, while Pallaton stood near the black stone table. Both waited until everyone was seated. She folded her hands, resting them on the podium. She leaned forward, her expression somber. Thank-you all for coming, Ryvinia began, her voice soft, yet it carried throughout the amphitheater. For the past two months, our planet has been in turmoil, mostly due to broken promises, false or no communication and mistrust. As a result, our people fought against each other. Lives were lost, She looked at the Jedi. However, our thanks are given to the Jedi for helping us expose the people responsible for this conflict and for paving the way for the beginnings of peace for Exoia and her people. She looked at the Enterprise crew, her gazing lingering on Malcolm. Our thanks also extend to Captain Archer and his people for their assistance as well. I hope that our worlds can begin a long and lasting friendship despite the distance between our worlds. She took in a deep breath. I will begin the tribute. The Counselor walked over to the black stone table, picking up a marker. For Zarnay. I thank her for her wisdom and faith in me. She stepped back a few paces, standing on a nearby path. Pallaton picked up a marker next. For Nayda. Her compassion and trust in people was extraordinary, he said. Gadi was next. For Vartan. May his wisdom continue to guide all of us, he said, picking up a marker then joined Pallaton and Ryvinia. Lonan led Hoshi and Archer to the stone table. The youth picked up three markers, handing one each to Hoshi and Archer. For Vallen. For his courage in the face of death, he said, his voice breaking slightly. For Vallen. For saving my life, Hoshi said in a trembling voice. For Vallen. I will be forever grateful for his...sacrifice, Archer said, his voice catching. Chelz approached, taking a marker. For Bryatta. I will always remember her friendship, Chelz said in a quiet voice. Kaylar took a marker. For Alzira. I will cherish what life we had together...and the child we could have had, the healer said with a sob. Entok picked up a marker, taking a deep breath. For Deegee. For his friendship, the guard said in a hushed voice. Elkan and his little girl Ebby approached the table. He picked up four markers handing one to Ebby. He cleared his throat. For Vallen. He will always be my friend. For Reyna. She was perfect for Vallen. And they are together once again. He cleared his throat again. For Lyra. She will always be in my heart. He felt a tug on his tunic. Looking down, he saw that Ebby wanted to say something. Seeing the look in his daughters eyes, Elkan knew that he had to allow her to speak. He nodded. Ebby held her marker tightly as she looked at everyone else seated. She took a deep breath and said in a small voice: I miss my mommy. Her simple words touched everyones heart. While the rest of those who lost loved ones spoke, Malcolm looked over at Trip, seeing a rather far off look on the commanders face. He wondered what was bothering Trip. But now was not the time nor place to question Trip. Perhaps once they were back aboard Enterprise, Malcolm could approach Trip about it. Qui-Gon looked briefly at Krysira, who nodded. He then rose to his feet. Counselor Ryvinia, the Jedi Master began. Yes, Master Jinn? Ryvinia replied. Before you proceed, we Jedi would like to offer our own tribute to those who were lost, with your permission. Certainly. At this point Krysira stood up, removing her hood. Much to everyone elses surprise, especially Trips, Krysira began to sing a song. Her voice was soft yet rich and filled the area with calmness and peace. After Krysira finished the song, Ryvinia stepped forward a pace. Thank-you, Knight Krysira, the Counselor said. Krysira merely inclined her head in response, as she reseated herself. Ryvinia then led the group up into the garden itself, where the markers were placed next to the plant, flower or shrub of choice in remembrance of the fallen Exoians.Part Two
Archer gazed at the strong looking shrub that he put his marker next to. He had discovered that the word on the material was the persons name in Exoian. He touched the deep purple leaves. Although he hardly knew Vallen, Archer would never forget the young Exoian warriors sacrifice. He noticed a movement and focused on Malcolm and Ryvinia approaching him. Captain, Malcolm said. Malcolm. Counselor, Archer replied. Thank-you for allowing us to participate in the ritual. Ryvinia nodded. It was the least I could do for all of your help, she answered. Archer smiled. Well...your people have done a great deal for my crew and I certainly appreciate it. And like you, I hope that our two worlds can form a friendship as well. Captain. It was Malcolm. He continued after seeing that he had the captains attention. Ryvinia needs to travel to Coruscant for a senatorial vote and we were wondering... he began. If Enterprise could take her there, Archer finished for him. Malcolm and Ryvinia exchanged a surprised look. Yes, sir, Malcolm replied, looking back at the captain, his dark eyes wide. Youre more than welcome aboard, Counselor, Archer replied. At least you asked. Pardon, sir? The British tactical officer looked puzzled. Archer shook his head. Dont worry about it, Malcolm. He smiled warmly at Ryvinia. Thank-you, Captain, Ryvinia replied with a smile. Well...its the very least I can do after all that you and your people have done for us. Ryvinia merely nodded.
Part Three
Captain Archer! It was Lonan. Following him were Sedona and his parents. Archer couldnt help but grin at the two pages. Lonan. Sedona, he began, then noticed the two unfamiliar Exoians behind them. Whos with you, Lonan? Oh! Lonan ran a hand through his short hair, flushing slightly. I am sorry, Captain. This is my mother Pedzi and my father Becan. Then to his parents: This is Captain Archer. Lonans parents nodded in greeting to Archer, who returned the gesture. Just then, out of the corner of his eye, Archer noticed that Hoshi was with Trey, Chelz and Caden. He saw Hoshi suddenly hug the Exoian woman, who looked ecstatic. He noted that Trey stood by patiently, practically beaming, while Caden loomed behind them, looking pleased. Archer wondered what was going on, but knew that he would find out sooner or later. Archer saw that they were making their way over to him. Introductions were made to Lonans parents. Captain Archer, Becan began. Lonan has informed me that the Rybrillians are to be returned to their home world. Yes. Thats correct, Archer replied. I would like to offer my assistance in this endeavor with your permission. Archer was silent for a few moments. He felt a hand on his shoulder and looking up, saw that it was Trey. Captain, according to Lonan, Becan knows the way to Rybrill, if I am not mistaken, Trey began. His assistance would be invaluable. Archer thought for a few more moments and realized that having someone who knew where they were going was better than flying around blind. He looked over at Becan. Your assistance would be great, Archer replied, seeing Lonan grinning for ear to ear. He couldnt help but smile. Becan bowed slightly. Thank-you, Captain, he replied. My ship is at your disposal. Archer nodded his thanks. Captain. It was Hoshi. I have a suggestion. Go on, the captain said. I think that Prefect Ca-Yanne and I should be on board first so that we can add the Rybrillian language in the universal translator ship wide before the rest of the Rybrillians arrive. Archer considered her words. I agree, Ensign. I can transport them, Captain. Becan offered. With your permission, of course. Of course. Thank-you. Archer paused, looking at Trey. Then you could begin transporting the Rybrillians to Enterprise, after Becan returns. Trey merely nodded. Lonan stepped forward. Excuse me, Captain Archer, he began quietly. The human captain looked over at the young Exoian page. Yes, Lonan? He asked. Prefect Ca-Yanne said that they are a patient people, but she should be told we are ready to begin so that they can prepare for transportation. Archer stared at Lonan for a few brief seconds. Youre absolutely right, Lonan, he finally said. Thank-you for pointing that out. Then to himself. I really hadnt thought of that. Captain, since Im going Tysag with Becan, I can propose the plan to the Prefect and then contact you, Hoshi offered. Archer studied the young communications officer for a long moment or two, then smiled. Sounds good to me, Hoshi. Thank-you. Hoshi felt a warmth rise in her cheeks. Youre welcome, sir. Malcolm, who had been taking in the conversation, suddenly spoke up: Sir, what about the shuttlepods? Archer looked at him curiously, What do you mean? He questioned. Its obvious that well need Treys ship to transport the Rybrillians down to their homeworld. And it will probably be easier to put his ship in the launch bay. However, there wont be enough room for all three ships. Archer rubbed his chin. Good point, Malcolm, he replied, thoughtfully. If I may? It was Ryvinia. Your...shuttlepods can remain in the hangar bay until we return, being that you will pass by Exoia to reach the gateway. That would solve the problem, Captain, Malcolm agreed. Archer studied both Ryvinia and Malcolm, seeing that he was being double-teamed. Agreed, he said, a smile flickering on his lips.Part Four
Hoshi now observed Trip and saw that the commander was rather subdued. She was still a bit unnerved by what took place yesterday, but had a better handle on it, thanks to Krysira talking to her. But she still needed time. It wasnt because she saw the Force being used. She had seen Qui-Gon use it. No...it was the fact that Trip had used it. Although she had fled the chambers after the vase hit the wall, she had briefly seen the horrified look on Trips face after the vase shattered. After hearing Krysira's explanation, she now understood Trips behavior. Hoshi knew that she had to talk to Trip. Perhaps once they were on their way to Rybrill, she would take the time to talk to him.Part Five
Captain Archer, Becan began, seeing the human turn to him. I hope that this will not be an imposition, but would it be possible for Pedzi and Lonan to accompany me? He saw Lonans shoulders slump a little. And of course, Sedona as well. He saw his son brighten. That is, if her aunt approves. Both Sedona and Lonan looked anxiously at Ryvinia. Well...since I am going as well, because it would be advantageous for us to see the Rybrillians home and my presence is needed on Coruscant, I have no objections. However, it is ultimately Captain Archers decision, the counselor replied. Archer stood with his hands behind his back, contemplating situation. I have a suggestion, Captain, Trey suddenly said, his raspy voice breaking the sudden silence, seeing Archer look at him. Once all the Rybrillians are aboard your ship, I will have more than enough room for all of us on my ship. Therefore, places to sleep would not be a problem. Ryvinia studied Archer for a few moments. I apologize for the fact that we are inconveniencing you, Captain, she said softly. Archers brown eyes softened, as he looked at the counselor. Nonsense! He told her. I understand how important family is. Im not going to deprive anyone of that. So...you are all welcome aboard. He finished with a big smile. The next thing that Archer was aware of was grunting under the impact of two very happy teenagers who were hugging him at the same time, thanking him profusely. He chuckled seeing the pained expressions on the faces of their family members. He gracefully accepted the gestures and embraced both youths with his own hug.Part Six
Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan made their way over to Trip and Krysira, who stood at their approach. We have been contacted by Yoda and we must return to Coruscant, Qui-Gon informed them. Will you be returning with us as well, Knight Krysira? Obi-Wan questioned. Master Yoda did not mention you. Not straight away, Obi-Wan, Krysira replied. I will be travelling to Rybrill on Enterprise, then returning to Coruscant. Master Yoda is aware of this. Qui-Gon nodded, then focused his attention on Trip. Commander Tucker...it has been an honor and your assistance throughout this conflict has been greatly appreciated. He bowed, as did Obi-Wan. Until we meet again. May the Force be with you. Trip nodded. You too, he said quietly. Krysira bowed as well. Safe journey, my friends, she said softly. Qui-Gon smiled, then he and Obi-Wan made their way out of the memorial gardens, pausing only to bid their farewells to the others. Trip looked at Krysira, seeing a flash of sadness cross her delicate features. Youre going to miss them, arent you? Trip assumed, giving her hand a discreet squeeze in comfort. Yes, Krysira replied. I have benefited from Qui-Gons vast experience and have enjoyed Obi-Wans youthful exuberance. She sighed softly. Trip nodded. Its always hard when friends have to part. He suddenly blinked. Now Im sounding like a Jedi! He exclaimed, looking surprised, then grinned at Krysira. Not that its a bad thing. Krysira smiled gently. Nevertheless, you are correct, Trip. I know that I will see them again. I dont doubt it, Krys. Well, we best get ready to head back to Enterprise. Indeed. They made their way over to Archer to receive whatever orders he was giving out.
