My Favorite Drummers

In my spare time I enjoy playing my Yamaha 6 piece drumset. I just recently started playing about 2 years ago, so I have alot of practicing to do. I decided to create this page to share with you the drummers that inspire me to play and more importantly the drummers that I love to listen to.

Danny Carey Name:      Danny Carey
Band:       Tool
Websites:  Tool, Danny Carey.org

I've seen Danny in concert a number of times and out of all the drummers I've seen, I enjoy watching him the most.  Tool's live shows are always amazing and sound incredible.  The drumset shown in the picture is actually
made of melted bronze cymbals - Danny was playing this kit on Tool's tour of their new album, Lateralus.

Name:     Neil Peart
Band:      Rush
Website:  Rush

Known as the "Professor," Neil Peart has been playing drums for a long time.  For his entire career he has played with the progressive rock band, Rush.  Neil's drumming has inspired many drummers - his creations are one of a kind and he has introduced many ideas into rock drumming.  I've seen Rush in concert, and Neil's drum solos are very musical and to say the least, brilliant.

Mike Portnoy Name:       Mike Portnoy
Band:        Dream Theater
Websites:  Dream Theater, MikePortnoy.com

Mike Portnoy has to be one of the busiest drummers playing today.  His band, Dream Theater, has released 10 albums in the past 12 years.  Mike is a very musically inclined drummer, and he brings alot to progressive rock.  What I love most about him is his attitude.  Mike plays with alot of enthusiasm and it shows in Dream Theater's concerts.  Not only is Mike incredibly good, every member of the band is a master of their respective instrument.

Name:     Jimmy Chamberlain
Bands:    Smashing Pumpkins, Zwan
Website:  Zwan.com

Before Jimmy was a rock drummer he played as a jazz drummer, and it shows in his playing.  Shown in the picture is Jimmy's custom Yamaha Maple kit.  What I love most about Jimmy is his feel and character of play.  Out of any rock drummers playing today, Jimmy stands out with his individualistic approach to drumming.  Currently he is playing with a Zwan, which consists of Billy Corgan from his older band, Smashing Pumpkins, and some other well-known musicians.  I've yet to see Jimmy play live - something that's definately on my list of things to do!

Vinny Paul Name:     Vinny Paul
Band:      Pantera
Website:  Pantera

Vinny is one of the best hard rock/metal drummers playing today.  Vinny plays with his brother Dimebag in their band, Pantera.  Vinny has demonstrated his skills with sound both on stage and in production of their music.  Their last album was recorded and engineered by Vinny and Dimebag.  Like Mike Portnoy, Vinny plays with an attitude that is unmatched.  Watching Pantera play live is amazing because of the energy and power the band creates through their music.
