About 150 people turned out for the rally in spite of the short notice and not altogether convenient timing. The mainstream media were present in force, and proceedings began with a vigorous press conference. As usual, after speakers had addressed the crowd there was a move to the back of the centre for some loud chanting which hopefully those inside were able to hear.
The last of the photos below shows the open grassed area inside the compound which was the subject of one of the demands of the hunger strikers in March (see Hunger Strike March 2002). Supposedly the detainees still cannot be allowed to use this area because it needs to be levelled.
