Play Hints
1. Pick a 1 - 2 minute monologue.
2. Make sure the monologue is
not from the show you are auditioning for.
3. Use a monologue that is the same style as the show you are auditioning for (i.e. drama, comedy, Shakespeare, etc.).
4. When the directors ask you to try something a different way, don't give excuses, they want to see if you take direction well.
5. Don't say "scene" at the begining and end of your monologue, it seems middle schoolish. Instead take a moment to get into character and start and then at the end, take a pause, then break character when you are done.
6. Pick a spot in the room to act to, don't act to the directors.
Musical Hints
1. Prepare about 32 measures of music (even if they only ask for 16) incase they need to hear more.
2. Don't pick a song from the musical you are trying out for.
3. Pick a song within your range.
4. Try to choreograph your song, it is boring to just watch someone stand there.
5. If it is a slow song, try to act it out, at least facially.
6. Don't "conduct" with your hands, try to find a motivation for your movements.
