Friends and relatives of the Collett-McKay families gathered at their picnic grounds near New Burlington Sunday, August 10, for their 76th annual picnic.
Approximately 300 guests were seated at three long tables where a large and tempting dinner was served. The traditional water wagon, which consists of huge barrels placed on a wagon, and coffee, boiled in large kettles at the picnic grounds, were among the usual necessities.
The guests were attracted to a table which was laden with interesting pictures and family trees. Although it rained during most of the afternoon, some of the members remained at the picnic grounds until evening.* * *
The 76th annual Collett-McKay picnic will be held Saturday, August 9. It is always held on the second Saturday in August on the picnic grounds that were purchased years ago especially for this occasion. Bad weather has never interfered enough to postphone this event in all the years that it has been held.
It is one of the oldest reunions in the state but it has always been called "picnic" because it was started years before the word reunion was known. About 300 have attended in recent years.
