Annual Collett-McKay Picnic Is Held Saturday

270 Register at Grounds Dedicated to Yearly Reunion

The annual Collett-McKay "picnic" is one of the largest of family reunions in the community and one that has most of tradition and interest. The picnic grounds near New Burlington, in a setting of immense old trees, have been set aside for this annual gathering of two of the oldest pioneer families in Clinton and nearby counties.

Each year members of these families come from far and near to enjoy a long day together and the proverbially large picnic dinner supplied from immense baskets crammed with varieties of dishes.

Mrs. Frederick Loren McKay, of Lockland brought a cake to be presented to the oldest person present. Mrs. S. C. Spoore, of brook, Ind., 92, received the prize.

One tradition of the picnic is that it always commands perfect weather. Since the picnics were inaugurated it has never rained (enough to give concern to anyone attending). Saturday was another perfect day.

No programs are given and the day is spent each year in visits with relatives, who because of the distance at which they live are perhaps only seen at these reunions.

Many attended from Dayton, Springfield, Cincinnati, Columbus and nearby places as well as from greater distances. In all 270 registered.

Among those were McKay Collett, Pelham, N. Y.; Elizabeth Collett, Pittsburgh; Mr. and Mrs. William Collett, Ronald R. Ellis, Cleveland; Allen McKay Terrell, Hayerford, Pa.; Rosie Mae Engberg, Pass, Miss.; Mrs. W. B. Wood, Green, Col.; Ruth Haynes, Mrs. S. C. Spoore, Brook, Ind.
