Okay, so Nancy from GardenWeb got me off my couch to share how to root using waterbottles. here are 2 methods. One I used to do and another that Nancy is using but was questioning. This is a great way of rooting a cutting. The perlite lets the water drain great, the bottle is clear so you can see the roots without having to disturb the process. Once you see a great number of roots through the bottle, you can remove it from the bottle (either by cutting the bottle off it or carefully removing it thru the top) and plant it accordingly.
For this method, cut the top of the bottle off right where the curve ends and flip the bottle over. I usually cut slivers of the plastic off in 3 places at the lowest point of the bottle to allow the fullest drainage
Method 2. Turn water bottle upside down and cut the bottom edge off of it. Now near the lid, cut an upside down T into the plastic where the curve is. I use a pocket knife to make the cut down and a scissors to cut it across
