Last day in Cancun Today was a nice, leisurely day, as befitting the last day of a vacation. I was the first one up and showered, with the rest of the pack following not too long after. We went to the market again today for some gifts to take home. Let the haggling begin! Dan got a guy to go down to nearly a third of his original price on a bracelet for his girlfriend, but I think Lucas won the "Best Haggler" award when he got a chessboard made of obsidian and some blue stone and a t-shirt for the shirt off his back, literally. Way to go, Lucas! We went over to the other Blue Bay and I borrowed a mask and went snorkeling It was, unfortunately, overcast today so the water wasn't exactly clear, but I was very excited to see all the fish. After swimming around for a while I found a spot where most of the fish seemed to have congregated. Saw 2 puffer-type fish and what had to be over a hundred other kinds I don't recognize, though I think one might have been a parrot fish. :-) At one point I looked up and was quite startled to see that I was nearly face to face with a barracuda that had to be at least 1.5 feet long. We must have startled each other, though, because I let out a muffled exclamation through my snorkel while the barracuda sped away. Another sea creature worth a side note was what looked to be a cross between a caterpillar and a crustacean. It was scuttling along the bottom away from me just as fast as it could go. ;-) The schools of fish were quite friendly, though. Several times I had to paddle backwards with my hands when a few got a little too curious. :-) Matt and I were getting ready to come out and dry off for a bit when I noticed someone come racing toward the dock with a pile of swim trunks in his hands. He dumped them all at the end of the pier, roughly 15 feet away from us, and ran away. It was just registering in my mind what this meant when my vision was assaulted with the sight of roughly 8 totally naked guys running towards us. Well, they were running toward their swim trunks, Matt and I were just unhappily in the same direction. I closed my eyes, but the afterimage had unfortunately already been seared onto my retinas. Actually, I couldn't stop laughing, but Matt tells me he was scarred for life. *grin* Did a little sea kayaking, and then we headed home because of rain. - No comments, Dan. - Dinner at the theater again tonight, finished with the "chiki" dance, as we dubbed it. This time almost all of us joined in, and I think we had lots of fun. It's too bad, really. A couple more nights of practice and I think I would have actually gotten good at it! ;-) It was a lot of fun, but I guess it's time to leave. Adios, Cancun! |
