Is GameTableOnline similar to Vassal, Cyberboard or other PBEM's? Not in the same sense, no. GTO is a real-time game system that tracks Electoral Votes as influence cubes are placed.

How are sides chosen? There is no system in place on GTO that allows the users to choose which candidate they want to be. Sides are chosen randomly.

If the game is live, how do I set a game up with my opponent?

Both players will have to decided on a time to mutually log in and play out the game. There may be problems with time zone differences, but hopefully players find time to play.

When you log onto the Gathering Place to create the table, I suggest you re-name the table with "BPA_yourlastname_your opponents last name" so that another random gamer doesn't sign onto your table.

I also suggest changing the settings accordingly - you can place time limits on turns, or play with no time limits on turns. Those settings are at the discretion of the players.

How long do games generally take?

I have played several beta-games of 1960 on GTO on unlimited time limit. The games generally last around 60 minutes.

I definately encourage you to play some test games to get a handle on the gameplay before entering the tournament.

What happens if a player loses connection to GTO mid-game?

This is a major concern to me as GM because it raises obvious sportsmanship possibilities.

There are only two ways that a game can be resolved if a connection is lost.

1 - both players mutually agree that the game was close enough to re-start the game.

2 - both players mutually agree that one side had enough of a lead, and that player deserves the win. (The GM will accept either option if both players agree. In the event of a disagreement, the GM will moderate the situation as best he can)

To aid in potential GM moderation, my suggestion to each gamer is to keep current screenshots of the game (see next question) after each turn. This will alleviate any potential problems.

How do we record wins with the GM?

Please send a final Electoral Vote count to the GM at this email.

Also, for proof of win, attach a screenshot of the final EV tally. To create a screenshot follow these steps:

1. When the game is over, a final screen will open with the final count.
2. On your keyboard, click the print screen button (you may need to use the shfit key if it is a top-layer function)
3. Open MS Paint (Programs>Accessories>Paint)
4. Click Edit > Paste
5. Make sure the final screen is in the visible area
6. Click File > Save as filename.jpg (enter your name as filename)
7. Email that file to the GM

Are there any bugs in the GTO system to be aware of?

Most of the bugs I've encountered in Beta have been fixed. If, during gameplay, you notice something that you deem to be game-altering - please make a note of it.

This is still a relativly new system and this is our first attempt to utilize it for the BPA.

If you have any questions that have not been addressed here, please email them to me.
