Runners: Carla Kidd, Chuck Kidd, Barb Allen, Oak Allen, Jackie Higgins, Dianna Higgins, Ed Knouse Comments: We met at Harvest Foods at 4:30AM, to carpool up to Jonesboro, arriving in Jonesboro by 7:00AM. Wow, we could have slept in another hour! However, that gave us an extra hour to see Chuck and Carla, and to go over the 5K route. The route was uphill on pavement for a quarter of mile, then turned into the woods for a trail run the rest of the way. It was a winding course, with some hairpin curves, and with a lot of up and down slopes that were pitted with small rocks and tree roots. At the bottom of these slopes there were usually logs to cross, requiring a good jump, or slowing down to step/climb over breaking ones momemtum. The woods stole any chance of a breeze, and with the temp, it was hard to keep my glasses from steaming over. All in all, though, it was a good time, however, this runner (Ed) needs to get better conditioned. I can easlily see that trail running requires training that road running doesn't provide. For most of us, our 5K times were worse, but for Oak, a true trail buff, his 5K time was better than the 5k in which we all did earlier this year. We cleaned up with the trophies, so they may not want us back next year. Chuck and Jackie didn't get trophies, but they both had great times. Their age groups had too many runners with unbelivable times. It was great to see Chuck and Carla again. Running Stats: Chuck Kidd: 26:??
