Part 18

After the movie was over Josh asked Shawnie if she wanted to go cursing for awhile before going home. Shanwie agreed. Josh got to drive again and he was so excited, because he was used to driving his truck and now he was driving her red corvette. He was having so much fun she had to laugh at him. When they started heading back to his house he looked over at her and said "I don't want to go home."
"Well I think you should because you parents will be even more angry at me." she said.
"I know, but they couldn't say anything if we were married." he said.
She was speechless on that comment. All she could do was stare at him. He pulled in his driveway and put the code in and drove up the lane. When he shut the car off she was still staring at him. He started laughing and said "I'm serious Shawnie. I think we should get married."
"Josh." she said.
"Yes." he said.
"You can't be serious." she said.
"I am serious. I think we should get married." he said.
"Josh we are too young. We are only seventeen. We haven't even graduated yet." she said.
"I know that, but I love you and want to marry you." he said.
"I think we should at least go out for awhile. I want to go to college." she said.
"I want to go to college to, but we can still get married and go to college." he said.
"I don't know." she said.
"Think about it at least okay." he said.
He got out of the car after he said that. She still sat in the car. He walked over to her side and opened her door. She got out and he pulled her close to him and shut her door. He leaned down and kissed her and gave her a hug. He walked her over to the drivers side and kissed her again. When she got in and started the car he leaned down again and kissed her again and said "Call me when you get home."
"Okay I will." she said.
When she got home she sat down at the bar and called Josh. They didn't talk very long. Skeet asked her how her dinner was. She told him and Grant about the dinner and then she said "Josh asked me to marry him."
Grant and Skeet's mouth dropped opened. They were speechless. Shawnie looked at them and said "That is excatly what I did. I was speechless."
Grant said "What did you say?"
"I told him that we were to young. Then he said for me to think about it." she said.
"So what are you going to do?" he asked her.
Skeet was still speechless.
"I said that I would think about it." she said.
"Well you are going to say no aren't you." Grant said.
"I don't know. This is a huge step for me." she said.
Grant could believe what she was saying. He looked at her and said "Shawnie, you don't want to mess up your life like this. You just met this guy. You can't be serious that you really want to marry him."
Shawnie looked at him and said "I didn't just meet him. I have loved him since I was fifteen. I have wanted this to happen to me for a long time. I won't mess up my life by marrying him. He wants to go to college also, so we could still get married and go to college together." she said.
Grant started to get angry. Skeet seen it in his face so he stepped in. He sat down beside Shawnie and said "Blondie you have to think about this. This is the most important day in your life. You can't just say yes and then get divorced at age eighteen."
Shawnie looked at him and said "I'm not stupid Skeet. I know that it is a really huge decision, he hasn't even got me a ring yet, so don't worry it won't be in the near future."
Grant slammed his fist down on the bar and said "I forbid you to get married when you are this young."
Shawnie and Skeet looked at him but didn't say anything. Grant looked at both of them and said "I'm your guardian and I have the say in what happens in your life. You know if your parents were still here they wouldn't let you get married."
Shawnie got up and said "You're right if my parents were here they wouldn't let me get married, but they aren't here. They left us when we were fifteen years old to raise ourselves. Yes, I know that a drunk driver hit them and killed them, but they didn't need to be on the road that night. They needed to be home with us. I mean for god sakes I had a broken leg and could walk or anything."
Grant looked at her and raised his hand to smack her face but stopped himself and said "I can't believe you think like that. Your parents loved both of you very much. Your parent's were on the road that night because it was their time to go and it was supposed to be like that."
"You never knew what me and Skeet went though after they got killed. We were a total wreck and not one person thought about us. We raised ourselves and we made our own decisions, and this is no different. You can't stop me from getting married not now and not ever. I don't care if you are our guardian. If you were our guardian then you would have been here for us and not in your big city making money for yourself."
After she said that she ran upstairs to her room. Skeet started to follow her but Grant stopped him and said "I should go talk to her."
Skeet looked at him and said "She doesn't want to see you right now. Let me go. I know my sister, she needs to cool down first."
Skeet disappeared upstairs. He knocked on her door and she told him to go away. He walked in anyway. He found her in the corner on her inflatable chair. He walked over to her and sat down on the floor. He grabbed her hands and said "Shawn don't take this out on Grant or mom and dad. You have a lot going on right now. If you truly love Josh then go for it but wait at least until you graduate. If you promise me that then I will support you all the way."
She looked down at him and said "I love you. I don't know what to do. I love Josh so much, you know that. I just don't know if I'm ready to get married yet. Tell me what to do Skeet."
Skeet smiled and said "Marry him after you graduate and then go to college. Make your dreams come true. I have a confession to make."
"What's that?" she asked.
"I asked Drea to marry me also. She said yes, but we are getting married after we got to college for at least one year. We haven't told anyone yet, you are the first one." he said.
She leaned down and hugged him and said "You think I should say yes then."
Skeet looked at her and said "I think you two need to talk about it and yes I think you should say yes."
"Okay I'll call him tomorrow." she said.
She got up to get changed to take a shower when she looked at Skeet and said "You think we are doing the right thing by getting married."
"Yes, I do." he said as he opened the door to leave. He gave her a wink and left. After she took her shower she went to bed.
When she woke up, she went downstairs to get something to eat. Grant was waiting for her in the kitchen. He looked at her and said "I think I got off on the wrong foot last night."
"Don't worry about it. It's over and done with." she said.
"So what have you decided?" he asked.
"Josh and me have a lot to talk about. That is why I'm going to ask him over here to talk about it with you." she said.
He started smiling............................................
