“Okay Joey here we go!” he laughed.
They were now standing at the door to the haunted mansion. Pacey knocks. With a few seconds a short squatty little man appears at the door.
“Can I help you?” the man asked in a revolting accent, that Pacey nor Joey could identify.
“Um Witter, for 2?” he asked unsure of the response this dude was looking for was.
“Right this way” the little man said leading them through the large hall.
The mansion was spooky. The interior designer did everything in dark large framed pieces very modern yet strangely old fashion horrifying! The excited the hall which it’s ceiling had a large stain glassed window that was in the pattern of red roses, it wasn’t beautiful by any means. It actually gave you this horrible feeling in the pit of your stomach.
They went into a good-sized room that to one side was a huge fireplace and to the other a big black desk.
“The manager will be with you shortly.” The little man said and disappeared. Joey turned to Pacey and said in a hushed tone
“Pacey I am really starting to freak out here!”
Pacey looked at her with a smile and then pulled her to him
“Don’t you worry your pretty little head about a thing now, you hear?” he said in a VERY bad southern accent. She playfully punched his arm.
“Well good evening to you Pacey Witter and Joey Potter, how delightful of you to come! Your scare awaits! Now if you please just fallow me we shall began.” The newly entered man spoke.
The man was quit a contrast to other, this man was tall, lean, very intimidating with his penetrating brown eyes and square jaw. He wore a black 3-piece suit with a blood red tie. Neither Pacey nor Joey could speak so they just followed.
The man led to the main hall way again and there he gave the final instructions. “You have an hour to find 3 clues. Each clue is hidden inside this house, and when you find the clue you must also do a challenge, failing the challenge with lead to unpleasant results but the winning of challenge will lead to reward, and if by the strike of the midnight hour you have returned to this spot with all 3 clues you shall leave with your life. . if not. . well then let’s just say it’s highly recommended you do bring them. . .“
The man then howled with laughter then disappeared down the hall.
Pacey and Joey stood mouths agape. Joey turned towards Pacey.
“Pacey I really don’t like the sounds of this! That guy sounds serious!” Her voice was stressed.
Joey held one of Pacey’s hands with the both of hers.
“It’s okay Potter, it’s for fun. Come on, I am right here!” he said lessening the grip of her hands on his and they started down the hallway hand in hand. They came to end of the hallway.
“You forgot these,” a voice said from behind them. They spun around and Joey shrieked nearly jumping in Pacey’s arms. Pacey’s heart sped up a little at the sound of the voice put he couldn’t stop the a little smile creep onto his face when he saw how scared Joey was.
It was that little disturbed man again.
He held 2 gift bags out to them. “Thanks” Pacey said as he and Joey took the bags. Pacey and Joey glanced at the bags for a moment and when they looked back up the found the man had again vanished.
“I do NOT like that little man!” Joey muttered under her breath. They began to look at the bags contents. A filled water gun, a putty knife, 2 markers one red one blue, and 6 little red flags, they also found a sheet of paper with instructions on it. You will need these things as you go on into your nightmare, the flags are to be left at the sight of you clue and at the site of your challenge. There must a total of 12 flags by then end of the nightmare, 6 for each. Now continue on! Where you start, where you end is up to you! Now go and I say LET THE NIGHTMARES BEGIN! the paper said.
Goosebumps rose on Pacey’s neck.
“These guys are horribly twisted, Pacey!” Joey said with disgust.
“Shh now, baby, we are going go on!” he said slipping an arm around her waist. They took a deep breath and together opened the door.
Pacey and Joey walked into another hall way that was eerily normal, though paintings off ghastly figures adorned the walls and it was dark only the dim light of a chandelier hung from the ceiling and the hall was cold.
“Scared yet Joey?” Pacey teased Joey.
“Hell yes!” she spat back at him her grip on his arm tightened as the floor creaked under their feet.
Suddenly as Pacey and Joey were nearing the end of the hall a voice boomed from above, “To find your first clue you have to locate your first challenge and to do so you have answer this riddle,
Taller than the tallest tree,
Yet lighter than the lightest bee.
You see it here, you see it there,
You see it ALMOST everywhere.
Like the chameleon, it changes colors,
Red, purple, blue and others.
It was there at dawning light,
It will be there at deep, dark night.”
And with that the voice was gone.
“What in the hell does that mean?” Pacey asked bewildered.
They stood still thinking of the riddle.
“Taller then the tallest tree. . . it changes colors . . ?” Joey said aloud debating it in her head.
“It will be there at deep dark night . . “ Pacey said and as he did a creaking sound came from above and as they both look up the chandelier began to shake.
Pacey thought quickly and grabbing Joey he thrust them away from the area to where the chandelier would hit and they fell to the floor Pacey covering Joey from the flying pieces. After the chandelier crashed Pacey and Joey stood shaking off the little bit of debris they got on them.
“The sky. . “ Pacey muttered. Joey moved to the chandelier and there she found their first clue. She held up a small pillow that had the word “soulmates” sewn into it.
“What does that mean?” Pacey asked. Joey laughed.
“One of my fears, someone uttering those words to me, soulmates! But what does it have to do with what we are doing?” she said looking at the pillow.
“Let me see that” Pacey said taking the pillow. He began to search the pillow and came up with a metal key. “Aw ha!” he said with triumph!
“Okay wise ass...what is it to?” Joey asked her arms folded, as Pacey’s face clouded in bewilderment.
“I will figure that out!” he said in determination. They stood for a few moments recapping on their situation.
“I got it! My other fear, my so called “soulmate”, there is once place that I dread more then any other place in world . . and I think you do too!” Joey said her eyes wide.
“You think?” he asked.
“Yeah, I mean it’s worth a try!” she said and they started to run towards the end of the hall. They threw open the doors and the stood facing a huge staircase that was in the center of a huge room. The room had black and white marble floor and the staircase was huge, there were a set of stairs on either side of the main staircase, one going off to each side. The stood a few seconds taking in the scene that stood before them. They glanced around the room the walls were bare except for the dark brown textured paint, the ceiling was high, very high. The stairs were carpeted in red velvet, the railing of the stairs was of dark wood, large distinctive patterns were carved into them intricately. The only real decoration was a large painting on the wall were the 2 sets of stairs met the center, it was of a water scene, a boat laid at the bottom of the ocean it’s frame crumbling, it’s wood decaying. It drew Pacey and Joey in, it was strangely familiar! They starred at it for a few moments them shook themselves free.
“So left or right?” Joey asked.
“Um I can I what’s behind door number 2?” Pacey asked a hint of smile playing on his lips.
“Ug you are impossible! Now left or right?” Joey asked again.
“Right?” he said not wanting to piss her off.
“Right?” she replied.
“Right” he said. She glared at him. “Left?” he said hoping to rectify the situation. She groaned and dragged him to the left.
They climbed the stairs slowly. The reached the top of the main set of stairs and they paused. Joey sighed. She linked her arm into Pacey’s. They climbed the stairs to the left. They reached yet another hall. The walked down and with in few feet they came to a door.
“Here goes nothing!” Pacey breathed and Joey squeezed his arm tighter. Pacey with a slightly shaky hand slip the key into the lock. The turned it and they herd it click. “Well here we go!” Pacey said turning the handle.
They pushed the door open and they looked into an exact replica of Dawson’s room! Joey let a scream out and threw herself into Pacey’s arms. Pacey started to fall back at the impact of Joey but quickly regained his balance.
“How did they know what Dawson’s room looks like?” Joey trembled. Pacey couldn’t explain it!
“I don’t know!” Pacey said his own heart beat speeding up.
“I want out!” Joey said.
“Okay lets go!” Pacey said and they took off down the stairs through the hall way back to the demolished chandelier. As they came up to chandelier they found that the door to the other hallway was no longer there!
“Pacey, what is going on?!” Joey said franticly. Pacey looked around terror now beginning to take hold.
“I don’t know Joey!” Pacey began to bang on the wall where the door once was. “You bastards! Let us out!” Pacey yelled threw clenched teeth.
“You can’t leave until your hour is up! Now I suggest that you finish the game or you will be faced with the consciences! Now go the clock is ticking!” a sinister voice boomed.
Joey began to cry, Pacey pulled her to him. Pacey was distraught. He held Joey tightly.
“Okay now Joey listen to me. . this is just a game okay. . if we have to finish we have to finish, nothing is going to happen! Okay now shh” Pacey said putting on a brave front while in side terror was eating at him. Joey summoned her strength and nodded.
“Okay” she said softly.
