Notes, Sources and Inspirations

The impulse to write the story came from Teach Youself Planets (USA), (UK) by David A. Rothery (2000), a Christmas gift from my parents. I think scientists are naturally cautious and undersell Europa. Just the fact it has a warm salt-water ocean has me tingling in expectation!!!

Of NASA missions to Europa, Europa Orbiter is by far the best page – stunning! BTW, the Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) provided the original image on the titlepage. Hope they don't mind my alterations.

The continuing sterling efforts of the Galileo probe are to be found here

IcePIC is a coalition of individuals dedicated to future Europa missions.

Also, read these reports at Scientific American and NASA Science News if you are are still unconvinced.

Lastly, don't forget the amazing NASA Astrophysics Data System Abstract Service for the latest updates on our understanding of Europa.

Cephalopod intelligence: Octopuses are Smart Suckers by Jennifer A. Mather and Roland C. Anderson is a beginner- friendly article by leading researchers in the field. Octopods are found to have adaptability and personality, and a propensity to play. I rather like this approach, based on Octopus wild behaviour or ETHOLOGY and not mere circus trick training, for which the results are dubious.

The Colourful World of Cephalopods is rather well covered here in an article by Alison Jane King.
