The G-Man (George) is fairly indescribable. I could tell you about his late-night codeine binges but that would be trite, fey, and uninformative. Or I could tell you about how he learnt the entire works of Jimi Hendrix by ear at the age of 11, but then overblown guitar virtuosity went out in the 80's. So I'll tell you what an ill boy he is. I mean, the "White Light/White Heat" album is the G-Man's frickin Bible. It's hard to exaggerate his intensity. Put it this way: after he'd been listening to "Lady Godiva's Operation" for 3 straight days once, he turned up at my doorstep strung out on codeine, begging me to perform a sex-change operation on him there and then, and then immediately reverse it because he didn't really want to be a chick. There he was, on my doorstep at 5am in his trademark VU&Nico t-shirt and regulation leather jacket, clutching an old Schopenhauer paperback that he had bought on Ebay because it was meant to have belonged to Andy Warhol's 3rd cousin. And the funny thing about it is, he doesn't even know where I live...

Chal is so wonderful, I personally thought they didn't make 'em like this any more, until I met her and even now I think she must have slipped through the net somehow because there certainly aren't any others like her. I mean she is a renaissance woman in the true sense of the word, and a worthy chanteuse indeed. She could have been in the Factory, and no I don't mean she's a drag queen or anything like that, just fantastically talented and exceptionally beautiful. Her voice has so much texture, at the same time ethereal like an angel and gravelly like ...err a beach? I dunno. She sings, plays bass, plays guitar, plays tambourine, she's going to play you for a fool (yes its true)...

Buzz is a pretty remarkable guy. Now I have been told in the past that I have a slight penchant for hyperbole but there is no exaggeration when I say that he is one of the best drummers in London right now. He has toured extensively with some very popular acts and is a phenomenally versatile player. He is currently finishing off his BMus degree at Thames Valley University, and is also available for sessions and/or lessons if he can fit you into his schedule. And be sure to ask him about how Maureen Tucker throws in a bar of 17/13 time halfway into Heroin...

Sammy is a classically-trained piano player in the vein of John Cale, I thought I would never find someone who is equally happy playing passages by Rachmaninoff as he is playing "Waiting for the Man" but just as I was having that thought Sammy waltzed into the room, fresh from having wandered round the streets of Paris as a romantic one-man-troubadour wooing those French ladies by performing pieces from Cale's "Paris 1919" album, you're a dirty dog and you know it Sammy, JC loves you yes he does And spare a thought for Brett and Eva, who served us to great effect and shared many wonderful moments with us both on and off-stage. They have moved on to smaller and lesser things. We wish them well. |
