Where I've Been

Everywhere it seems.  I was born in Youngstown, Ohio, but moved with my parents of course, when I was 9 years old to sparkling Clearwater, Florida.  Prior to moving to Florida, my parents always planned amazing vacations for our family.  Every year, six of us traveled in either our brown Pontiac convertible or the brown station wagon with the "way back" seat that faced backwards to almost every national park in the United States.  Attached to our car on these trips was a 16 ft. travel trailor.  I have some great memories of those road trips with my younger sister and older brother.  Let's just say that my parents had a lot of patience with us.  Most of the time.

I graduated high school in 1983 and decided to take a Northeastern tour of the United States before I started nursing school. I blame my nomadic ways and uncontrollable desire to travel on my parents.  I went to Ohio, Boston, and Connectucut and eventually found my way back to Florida after 6 months.  I never did make it to nursing school, but I did attend junior college for a couple of years.

I married in 1988 and had a son in 1989.  When my son was 2 months old, I moved to Hawaii with my husband.  What a beautiful place to live.  We lived right across the street from the Illikai Hotel on Ala Moana Blvd in Waikiki.  Discovery Bay was the name of the high rise building.  I could see the deep blue Pacific Ocean from my 13th floor balcony.  I loved living in Hawaii.  Weekends were filled with driving around the island or hopping to another island in the Hawaiian Island chain.  Eventually, my husband and I moved back to Florida and started our own air ambulance business.  Around 1994, I decided to finish college and become a teacher.  My husband and I divorced in 1995.

I am currently engaged to a man that I have known since 1999 and we have a 3 year old daughter.  He works for Delta Airlines which is great for my traveling spirit. (thanks Mom and Dad)  We have been to Aruba and Ireland.  New Orleans was fun and Key West is one of our favorite places to go.  We are planning on getting married there in August.

In retrospect, I find it fascinating how my zest for traveling was inculcated by my parents at such an early age.  My life's journeys began on I 75 in a brown Pontiac and a 16 ft. travel trailer.  Who knew it would take me this far.

My Life as an Educator

I am currently in my 9th year of teaching.  I am always trying to do things differently and looking for innovative ways to teach and reach my students.  I am currently team/co teaching with 2 other teachers on my grade level.  We developed a teaching model that integrates Science with Reading, Writing, and Math.  I am also the recipient of a $35,000 HP Technology Grant.  The grant package included Tablet PC's, scanner/printers, digital cameras, and projectors for a team of 5 people.  As part of the grant project, I created a Wiki website where my students collaborate with other students in grades 3-5.  The wiki can be found at  The Sticki Wiki .  Check it out.  I am also a National Board Certified Teacher.

When I'm Not Working...

The first thing I like to do after work is go to the gym.  It helps me transition from work to home by getting rid of excess energy  (aka stress) that I accumulate during the day so I can relax when I get home.   On the weekends, I take my daughter to gymnastics.  During the Spring, I love to go to Spring Training baseball games.  Florida has the best weather in March and April.  Another of my favorite past-times is reading.  I love to read just about anything.  History though is my favorite subject.  Busch Gardens and Disney World are two of my favorite amusement parks.  I have a passion for roller coasters.  The beach is another hot spot I like to visit, especially at sunset.  There is nothing like cool sand sifting through your toes as you watch a golden sunset over glistening waves that gently lap onto the seashell laden shores.  The smell of salt air and the feel of balmy breezes in your hair just adds to the spendorofic scene.

Web Sites I Like

Here are just a few of my favorite web sites.  If it's interactive, I love it!
Illuminations
A math website that has cool interactive virtual manipulatives.
The Sticki Wiki
This is my website so naturally it would be one of my favorites.  It has plenty of resources and links for just about every subject.  Explore and see what you think.

Kid's Health
Try this website for some great resources on how to stay physically, emotionally, and mentally healthy.

This is a personal homepage and doesn't represent the opinions of my school. Last updated on May 28,2007.
