This section of the walk starts at
Lily Street park and lookout, off Buckley Street in Essendon, bordering
Avondale Heights.
|
Lily
Street park is about 1 kilometre from the Afton Street
footbridge featured in the first walk. It is linked via a
short walk up Afton Street, then along a pathway which
strikes off across open ground before dipping into a
little valley then winding steadily up the hill to the
park on top. |
|
|
The
park has no facilities apart from seating and the shared
path for walkers and cyclists, but we get a great view
from here of the Maribyrnong as it meanders around in
horseshoe fashion.
Heading
in an upstream direction, we start by descending from
Lily Street park into Steele Creek reserve. |
|
On the way
down the hill, we get pleasant views across the reserve,
with the houses of Avondale Heights perched on the rim of
the basin, and native trees scattered throughout the
grasslands below. |
