How much have you lost to date?
"My weight was 220 before we began our new lifestyle. My current weight on August 8th is 157 -- mostly muscle."
What is the biggest challenge with your new lifestyle?
"One big challenge is working out when I'm away from home on business. Another related challenge that is sometimes bigger is eating properly when I'm at meetings with friends and colleagues who do not. For example, if I'm invited to go out to the annual speakers' dinner with the group at the turfgrass convention in Des Moines. The goal of the evening has always been to see how much you can eat and eat until your stomach hurts."
What's the best thing about losing over 50lbs?
"Being able to reach my shoes (while they are on my feet) and to tie them. I now have more energy and feel better, so I talk more and smile more -- I'm happier."
What's the worst thing?
"When people ask me if I have lost weight, it tells me that my weight before was noticable and I was fat. I usually give an excuse for losing weight -- like it wasn't my plan to do so."
What has surprised you most about losing weight?
"You know what I've discovered? I became overweight without really realizing it. Becoming overweight was something that just sort of sneaked up on me. But seriously, I'm starting to get annoyed by people who notice my weight loss. I wasn't that fat -- was I? Wait, don't answer that!"
