Why is it so important that the Gospels must all have a common source? Why cannot that common source be God? Why when we understand the manner in which witnesses to the same event, will relate that event to others but minor details will be different, must we then insist that these Gospels, and the Gospel of Thomas, which have so much in common and yet are different must have a further source from which they were copied.

Is the Lord God Almighty so weak that He cannot guide people in what they do, say and the stories they relate of Himself ? I myself have been guilty of this very thing in the recent past. Attributing to God the weakness of we humans.

And that I beleive is the base to this entire matter, for it seems to myself that most of those who wish to portray the Gospels in the light of "Q", there seems to be a definite disbelief in the inspired work of God and so it is clear that the theory of "Q" is an attack on the inspiration of Scripture.

Many of those who hold to this view and promote the idea do not believe the Bible is inspired (God-breathed). They do not believe that the Gospels were written by the Apostles or other close associates. And when they do believe the latter, then the veracity of the Gospels is dismissed because they have been writen so long ago and no complete original manuscript remains. While God Himself plays no part in the preservation of these writtings.

Most also do not believe it is possible that 2 or 3 authors could use the exact same words without using each others' writings as sources. But even if Luke and Matthew have used Mark's Gospel in completing their compilation what does that matter. The fact that they are so identical does, I believe discount any attempt at fraud or mis-representation on the part of these writers. The truth of this is clearly seen in Lukes Gospel where he declares that he has researched, and in so doing he was obviously (IMO) accurate in his record, if copying form Mark and Matthew.

So it seems to me that those who promote the Theory of "Q" reject the possibility of the oversight of the Holy Spirit in helping the Gospel writers to accurately record the words and works of Jesus. In this then, it seems that the "agenda" is total denial of any accuracy in the Gospel narratives, rather than an objective view of the facts as we presently have them.
