Originally titled 'Tamba means to play', Sei ko1 was created and performed in Zimbabwe in April 2001. It's a story about a boy looking for his fortune. Swept around by the winds of fate and consistent change, Tamba (or later Sei ko), the boy, lands up where he started, only to know himself for the first time. Filled with song and rhythm, this drama-cum-physical theatre piece pulls you into its own world. You wake up feeling that you journeyed with Sei ko.
The use of props is minimal and while the performers make use of a few props, they are used as indicators of character in character morphing (instantaneous change of character), or as elements that highlight the essential meaning of the story.

The Makendast Theatre Ensemble was awarded a grant by the Arts Council of South Africa, and thus able to perform this piece using three actors from Kayalethsa informal settlement. Sei ko was performed in the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town April 2002.
