Looking out your vehicle window will not do justice to the sightseeing opportunity that can be experienced with a stroll along Bucking Horse River. So plan to stop at the Bucking Horse River Provincial Park campground located at Km 278 on the Alaska Highway. Walk along the river's edge; let the clean fresh air tantalize your nose and fill your lungs. You will be standing in an area that is the last stretch of flatland before the rolling landscape of the Rocky Mountain foothills to the west. Upstream from the park you can enjoy the beauty of canyon walls as carved by the river. This is a great spot with its deep pools to try some fishing for arctic grayling. Or perhaps a northern pike, dolly varden, or mountain whitefish will be enticed by your bait. Downstream from the campground the more adventurous will find pleasure splashing around in the deep pools of this river. The nature-lover will enjoy the abundance of wildlife. In the early morning hours just before dawn or the evening hours around dusk, you may catch a glimpse of a moose grazing in the area. Watch for the spotted sandpiper as he feeds on insects at the river's edge. Whatever your enjoyment be - walking, fishing, exploring, or bird-watching - Bucking Horse Provincial Park campground, open from May to October, is a great place for a stop-over destination. With tables, water supply, firewood, fire rings, outhouses and garbage containers, this beautiful open site with room for thirty-four vehicles provides all your camping needs. So stretch those legs; then relax and watch a magnificent sunset unfold before your eyes. A perfect ending for a perfect day at Bucking Horse Provincial Park.
