The music playing is "Country" During my lifetime I have had several opportunities to live as those people of the early 1900's lived. Most of those times were as a child, carefree and with no concerns for the tomorrow. And as all children, I had no worries about the safety of our lives, mine or my family's. I had no reason to know different and, therefore, was solely dependent upon my parents. They were my security. When I and my three children decided to venture north, I became the one who had others depending upon me. Now as a parent, my parents concerns became my own. What you are about to read within these pages are our adventures as a young family learning about a life completely different from what we were used to. Having come from the rural area, I had enough self-confidence or, some may state, stubborn determinedness that I was undaunted by what might face us in a northern country. A sparsely populated rural area, that although supplied its residents with electricity and natural gas heat, was still much like an untouched wilderness. Our little piece of Heaven, completely surrounded by thick underbrush (mostly willow) and tall Trembling Aspen interspersed with towering Sitca Evergreen, gave illusion to an area cut-off from civilization. As an adventurer, I got caught up in the mystique of wilderness homesteading. The density of the woods cushioned any sounds of the outside world and made it easier to "pioneer". With surprises that we took in our stride, we persevered overcoming many obstacles. These excerpts are written exactly as they occurred. Everything is truth. The hardships; the scares; the laughter; none of it has been altered. Settle in and prepare yourself for a lengthy stay. I am sure you will enjoy reading as much as I did living the experiences within. A Dedication Tribute Who Said a Woman Couldn't Do It!
