A Statement of Christian Doctrine

My Take on the Christian Doctrine

Society creates its own religions when groups of people disagree and place their own interpretation of the Holy Word of God into their own doctrine. The people of the early Roman Empire from the first century AD who did not follow Christ dubbed those people who followed Christ with the name Christian. Throughout the decades any denomination that declared Jesus as the Son of the virgin Mary, the Son of God, was categorized as Christian. Society must step back and view the doctrines of some of these denominations. Praying to God with Jesus as the Mediator is Christianity. Praying to God through other means or persons is not.

"I am a Christian." This statement when uttered in the presence of a diverse group can bring about a varying degree of change in attitude. The feeling in a room can waft between the comfortable warmness of those interested and the icy coolness of those who are not. A room can carry an almost unbearable tense aloofness. Or a room can become electrified when some raise their backs in defensive combat against what they term a "Bible thumper". One religious person will tell you that in Matthew it speaks of a World War 111. Another will tell you that the same passage prophesied World War 1 and 11. I tell you it is history established in the First Century with the Fall of Jerusalem. How do I know this to be the truth?

It is not the Holy Word written in our Holy Bible that is contradictory, but rather the interpretations that are put on it. There are many people who are not receiving the chance to know God because they are being led astray by many who call themselves Christian. Is this why we hear of so many un-Christian Christians? Is this why Christianity has acquired a bad reputation in a "Christian" world?

I am a Christian. That is my statement. I believe the Bible to be the Word of God. For me, a Christian is someone who knows Jesus is the only Mediator between mankind and God. For me, a Christian follows God's Word as It is written in every verse recorded in the Holy Bible. I do not follow one part of the written Word because it can be made to fit in with my lifestyle and ignore the other Books of the Bible because they expect a lot more of me. I try to the best of my ability to follow all of God's Word. Christians follow God's Word faithfully and shape their lifestyle around His Word.

I am not the first, and won't be the last, to acknowledge that following the path of Righteousness by God's Word is the easiest path to follow. As mere man we are bound to stray once in awhile, but God forgives if we truly are remorseful.

How can you distinguish a true Christian from one who thinks he/she is a Christian?

The most frequently heard statements:

1. THE CHURCH - God's Church is a place where two or more meet in His name and have fellowship in His presence. The elders of a church that has many members are there to see that the congregation remains on the Holy path to God. The congregation is those who are truly after the Spirit of God. These people submit to the authority of the Lord through the Laws of God through baptism by complete immersion in water and with the Lord's Supper.

But several churches in our society today have their own doctrine that they follow and each church claims to be the only right church. How do we know which church is the right church? How can there be so many different churches with different doctrines when there is only One God? It deeply saddens me when an elder or a leader of a church exerts his authority to change the written Word to accommodate special interest groups. I became even more disillusioned with a certain group of men of the cloth when they deviated off course and agreed to switch our origin from Creation to evolution just because the majority of people believe such. How can the elders of a church take away from or add to the scriptures? It then becomes man's word, not God's Word.
Unfortunately,in a situation as this, the tables turn, and a few people of the congregation then try to dictate to the church leaders how they feel the Bible should be interpreted. Politics should not enter into God's Word.

One day He will bring to Himself in heaven all believers throughout the age, from the beginning of mankind to the Second Coming, the living and the living of the dead. This gathering of the believers in heaven and earth is the Body of Christ, and His Bride. He is the Head of the Body and the Cornerstone of His Church.

References: 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; Ephesians 1:22; 5:23; Luke 20:17; Ephesians2:20-22.

2. GOD - The Bible teaches there is one God. There are those who can not believe that God exists because they cannot see Him. Yet, they do believe that there must be some sort of power out there. Just not God!

The Bible teaches that God is Omnipotent, Omnipresent, and Infinitely Holy. There are those who question His whereabouts when all around us lay confusion, sorrow, pain and suffering.

There is one God, and He is everywhere at once. We cannot blame Him for the misfortunes that occur on earth.
The Bible teaches us that God exists as three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The three are One in substance, power and glory, holiness, purpose and will. There are those who only see three separate entities. They cannot see the Father and the Son as being both the Father and both the Son. Nor do they understand how God can be the Holy Spirit. God is God. Jesus is God. The Holy Spirit is God. But there is only One God. Therefore, God is God. God is Jesus. And God is the Holy Spirit. God is the One who gives and sustains life. He is the One who introduces us to faith through human means. He is the One who guides this faith and us to maturity. But, "Who is God?" is still the most frequently asked question.

References: Genesis 1:1, 2, 26; Genesis 17:1; Deuteronomy 4:35; 6:4-5; Psalm 139; Isaiah 44:6-8; Colossians 1:16-17; 2:9.

But, you ask, because of all the propaganda in the world, and with the way many have tried to discredit the Bible as being God's Word, how can I be sure this is God? How do I know there is God? By studying ancient history side-by-side with biblical history I can say I know that God exists.

3. JESUS CHRIST - The Bible teaches that Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, the only "begotten" Son of God, the Holy Spirit. There are those who do not believe. It is truly difficult to believe that one can be born of a virgin. It isn't being done today, how could it have been done in the past? Remember that with God everything is possible.

The Bible shows how during His ministry on this earth He was the truest servant before God and man. In His death He was the sacrificial Lamb for sinful man. There are those who ask why God would have His own Son's Life taken on the Cross. Jesus knew from the beginnng what His purpose was. He referred to His death often throughout His ministry.

The Bible teaches that He is mankind's Savior from sin for all who believe through His name. He provided the way to God through Himself. The Bible teaches that He raised Himself from the dead, ascended to the Father and will return bodily to judge the living and the dead. Too many people believe this on blind faith, the remainder scoff at such a notion. I believe through factual historical evidence, both biblical and secular.

The Bible teaches that He now sits at the right hand of God interceding for believers. He is the only Mediator between God and man, the only Savior, the Head of the church and the only Lord of the household of God. He eternally existed with the Father and the Holy Spirit. He is ALL God and ALL Man. This is very difficult for many to fathom. For them it is much easier to call Jesus a myth. A mythical person is a fictious person; an imaginary person. Jesus was real. He is found in a time place dimension where events occurred because of His miracles. And without the preceding events, the miracles would not have occurred. Jesus is the centre of life in the first years of the First Century AD.

I know Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus is our Lord and Savior. How do I know?

4. THE HOLY SPIRIT - He is a reality. He is God. He is Jesus. He is not a force or a power of influence, but a being of substance. The Holy Spirit took part in the creation of earth and all living things upon the earth. He is involved in the plan of redemption. He is judge and pronounces the conviction of sin. He is a participant in the restoration of the believer. He introduces God into the life of the non-believer. He is the one who reminds us of all that pertains to Jesus Christ, His Word and ministry. The Holy Spirit instills within us a need for a godly life by His presence dwelling within us. He seeks to present the believer unblemished to the Lord Jesus Christ. He encourages the believer to worship, praise, serve and glorify Jesus Christ with joy. He seeks to direct our lives that in all things Jesus Christ may have the glory. He is the speaker on our behalf when we are at a loss for words. He knows what is in our hearts and intervenes on our behalf. Is this a figment of the Christian's imagination? No. That constant feeling of "there must be more"; that feeling of "emptiness" and being "lost and searching" is common in the greater populace. Could it be the Holy Spirit tugging at our heart strings? Is He leading us gently to God?

References: Matthew 28:19; John 16:8-15; Ephesians 1:13; 4:30.

5. THE BIBLE - Is the eternal Word of God, breathed by God and written by men of God under the divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit. The Bible is perfectly preserved by the power of the Holy Spirit. Original manuscripts that have been discovered prove there are no errors in the Holy Bible. Is this enough for us to believe it is the Word of God? Is there enough proof to sustain the truth and holiness of the Holy Bible that it can with all power govern every aspect of the believer's life? Yes.

The Word of God has been distorted within many churches, as well as outside of the church, that people put the contradictions heard during debates with one another on the "error of the Bible". They cannot find fault within themselves and they must not find error in the doctrine of their church, therefore, they place the blame of error on the translation of the Word. How can we be sure that what is written in the Holy Bible is the original Word of God?

References: 2 Peter 1:20-21; John 12:17; 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

6. GOD'S LAWS - There are two that the church must uphold. Water Baptism, salvation by God's command, identifies the believer with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. The Lord's Supper commemorates this sacrifice of His flesh and blood on the cross as the payment for our sin. Jesus asked that they be followed and remembered.

References: 1 Corinthians 11:23-30; Matthew 28:19.

When we enter into a relationship with Jesus Christ, by confessing and forsaking our sin, we enter into the family of God. As we grow in the Lord's Word, a change in our lives, begins to take place. I am not a witness for Jesus. That is a denominational terminology. Only the apostles can witness; they were there with Jesus, before and after His crucifixion. Yet, my life changed. How did it change?

References: Ephesians 1:6; 2 Corinthians 5:17.

7. THE DEVIL - There are those who believe the Devil was invented to scare people into submission. They believe he was invented to give reality to a Hell. The Devil is a real person, referred to in the Scriptures as the Devil, the Serpent (Snake), Satan, who fell from his original state in heaven before God because of his pride and arrogance. God made Hell for the devil and his cohorts, not for the purpose of forcing mankind into submission.

The devil is the enemy of God and all mankind: the believers, and the non-believers. His desire, and therefore sole purpose, is to rule over creation as god, in the Throne of God, and to preserve mankind in its lost and unredeemed state forever, both damned and separated from God. God has already overpowered Satan and has already condemned him to eternal death in Hell, the place of his punishment. Hell is Satan's prison, not his peaceful mansion, and not his playground.

Jesus called him "a liar and the father of Lies". Paul referred to him as "the prince of the powers of the air" and "The god of this age". According to Peter, He is the deceiver of all who "travel throughout the whole earth, seeking whom he may to devour".

There are those who believe that Satan is yet to come and yet to rule for a 1000 years. There are those who expect to see a one on one war between Good and evil. Why would God go through all the torture, the pain , and the sorrow again? Why would Jesus need to be crucified again? The devil, the destroyer of man has no claim or hold on the believer, because his doom was and is sealed in Christ at the cross. He has been overruled and overpowered by the blood of the Lamb.

References: John 8:40-44; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Job 6:1-11; Ezekiel 28:12-17; Revelation 20:10 with Genesis 3:15.

Hell is the place of eternal punishment created for the devil and his angels or demons. It is referred to as a place of intense unquenchable fire, a place of excruciating pain and torment, a place described as outer darkness and of wailing and gnashing of teeth for eternity. Who would enter Hell?

References: Luke 16:23-24; Revelation 21:8; Matthew 23:33; Hebrews 10:26-29.

8. HEAVEN - There are those who cannot believe there is a Heaven because they cannot see it. Heaven is a literal place, not a state of mind or emotion. Heaven is where God sits on His throne. It is the place from which Jesus came, the place to which He returned and the place from which He will come again. Heaven is the promised eternal life of every believer in Christ. Do we need only believe there is a Heaven, or can we know for sure there is a Heaven? There is a mansion and there are many rooms.

References: Isaiah 66:1; Revelation 21:2; John 14:3.

9. SALVATION - The Bible teaches that all are eternally lost through the sinfulness of Adam and Eve, the parents of all mankind. There are a great number of people who believe evolutionists and their propaganda, which spreads disbelief in creation by God as our origin. The facts speak for themselves. Evolution is a religion; Creation is an origin.

Mankind can only be saved through a personal relationship with God through Jesus. Man is given the most precious gift on earth, the "gift" of eternal life when he recognizes his sinful state, prays for forgiveness through His Name and forsakes of all other sin. Man's confession of his sin to God and his receiving Jesus Christ as his Savior must be a loving commitment done in good faith. Man must, through faith in Christ, believe in His sacrifice upon the cross and the shedding of His blood to receive forgiveness for his sins. There are those who cannot grasp this concept. To learn all there is to learn about God is to know God and understand the powerful meaning of Jesus crucifixion on the cross.

References: Romans 3:23; 6:23; 5:12-17; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; Hebrews 9:22; John 1:10-14, 16-17; 5:24-25.

Yes, Jesus died for us on that Cross. It is the greatest love God could ever give to mankind. This I know. How?

10. GOD'S PLAN OF SALVATION - Because of the sinful nature of man, a condition that man alone cannot conquer or change, God provided a way to salvation. Jesus said:

"For the Son of man came to seek and to save the lost" Luke 19:10.

God created man to have fellowship with Himself. Man was first created in His image, but when the first sin of disobedience entered the world with our original parents we became forever lost: bodily and spiritually. We inherited a sinful nature by that one rebellious action of Adam and Eve when they chose to disregard God's request and ate of the Tree of Knowledge at the prompting of the Devil. We have allowed ourselves as a human race to be led astray by those who do not wish to conform to God's Word and His Law. We have become a society that carries as its motto the most often quoted statement of "You got to look out for number one; no one else will" that leads to selfishness where individuals do what is best for himself or herself, no matter what the consequences for another. God looks at this as an attitude of sin. Because this sin is a part of human nature, we are forever apart from God. God is perfect, and in His righteousness cannot allow any sin into Heaven.

As it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one. No one understands, no one seeks for God. All have turned aside, together they have gone wrong; no one does good, not even one." Romans 3:10-12

Because of this sinful nature the human race just cannot measure up. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23.

The payment for our sin is death, body and soul. "for the wages of sin is death" Romans 6:23.

This death is not merely the death of physical life in that we were born of dust so shall we return to dust, but it is also the death of our soul. It is an eternal agony of the soul forever in a place called the lake of fire (Revelation 21:8). It is everlasting Hell. There are those who think that living on earth is a form of hell, but according to the Scriptures, what awaits mankind in Hell is far worse than any hell on earth. "And these shall go away into everlasting punishment" Matthew 25:46.

God reveals His plan of salvation for a reason. He knew we could never give enough, work hard enough, or be good enough to be worthy of entering heaven. We could never wash away our sins. God foresaw this and paid the price for our sins when He sent His only begotten Son who was sinless into the world to be the sacrifice for that sin. God made it possible for us to repent of our sins and enter into His Realm in Heaven.

Jesus knew from the beginning what His purpose was on earth. He had full control of His life and His death. There are those who cannot understand why such a loving God could give up His own Son. That love is so great, so strong and so pure that as mere humans we cannot even begin to fathom the depth of that love. John 3:16.

"But God shows his love for us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us" Romans 5:8.

"For our sake He (God) made Him (Jesus) to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we (sinners) might become the righteousness of God." 2 Corinthians 5:21.

There are those who believe this love wrought out of grace comes by faith, alone, with an absolute trust in our Lord Jesus Christ. They have faith in the trust that He will do just as He promised. The promise that if you believe in Him He will save you from your sin and deliver you from the punishment for sin forevermore. I have more than faith, I have an assurance in that the knowledge I have acquired is absolute.

"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any one hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me." Revelation 3:20.

"But to all who received Him (Jesus Christ), who believed in His name he gave power to become the children of God," John1:12.

Yes, I have more than faith. I have more than a feeling. I have knowledge founded on both Biblical and secular evidence. I have solid evidence, absolute proof that makes my love for God tangible. I can say I know there is God.
