Name: T'kever Age: 53 Rank: Wingleader Birthplace: Makala Weyr Residence: Makala Weyr
Hair: Brown hair the color of klah bark is now liberally sprinkled with silver, spreading from his temples. It's worn almost aggressively short, as if to announce to the world that yes, his is a dragonrider. Eyes: T'kever's eyes are a muddy green, and seem sunk back in his head. Build: At 5'11", T'kever is not a tall man, but he tries not to be self conscious about it. Complexion: Turns of dragonriding and fighting thread have left T'kever with dry, leathery skin. He's the kind of man who would be described as "grizzled," one who's lived a long, ahrd life and shows it. Identifying Marks/Other: T'kever's got his share of threadscores, both large and small, from a lifetime of fighting thread.
Family: Rhellen, brother - Weyrharper, Fire Flame Weyr Ree, niece - Wingrider, Makala Weyr Rejani, nephew - JM Harper, location unknown S'rion, friend - Weyrleader, Makala Weyr Iorata, weyrmate (deceased) H'ruse, son - Wingrider, Makala Weyr Embry, daughter - Wingrider, Makala Weyr
Personality: T'kever is a hard, strict man, who never smiles and rarely even allows himself the release of wine. He is competent as a wingleader, incredibly so, and his wingriders trust him to keep them alive, but he is not loved, and indeed not even liked, except by a few who are sympathetic to his loss. His dearest friend is S'rion, the only person in the weyr who he truly believes understands the depth of what he lost with Iorata's death. Her loss haunts him, and the image of her and Adrenth covered with thread haunts his sleep.
History: T'kever was born Takever, the only son of a brownrider and his greenrider weyrmate, who was killed in threadfall a mere two turns after T'kever's birth. He grew up in the weyr surrounded by dragons, riders, and evidence of the menace that was thread. He barely remembers the first six turns of his life, before thread started falling, but he yearns for the day when the sky will once again be thread-free. He stood for Impression at Hatching after Hatching, desiring nothing more than to Impress so he could join in the fight to protect Pern, but nothing came of it.
Finally, at 18 turns, he apprenticed to the Weyr Smith. That same turn Iorata, a young girl of only 14 turns with laughing eyes, Impressed gold Adrenth. T'kever fell hopelessly in love with her, and to his immense delight and disbelief, she returned the feeling. They were weyrmated, he the 19 turn old apprentice Smith, she the weyrling goldrider. It was Iorata who convinced T'kever to Stand again at the next Hatching, where he Impressed bronze Coriolith. He always attributed the fact of his Impression to Iorata's faith and encouragement, even though Coriolith categorically denies it.
They lived together for many long and happy turns. They had two children, first H'ruse, now a bluerider, and Embry, a greenrider. Iorata was always the apple of his eye. His own promotions were swift, as his natural talent evidenced itself.
When Mirkali died and his dearest friend S'rion fell into a deep depression, T'kever was sympathetic, but truly did not understand the depth of the Weyrleader's loss. That is, he didn't understand until Iorata, trying to save a badly scored weyrling greenrider, was horribly scored and died. A part of T'kever died then as well, the part that laughed and knew how to smile. He does his duty now, grudgingly, because he knows that there are few riders in the weyr who are as capable as Wingleader as he is, but he longs for the day when he can lay down the burden that has become all too hard for him to bear.
Dragon Information
Name: Coriolith Age: 1019.05.01 Parents: Ehbereth/Jestikith Color: Bronze Size: Large Description: A large and grizzled bronze, Coriolith is hardly ancient at 22 turns of age, but his experience and numerous threadscores, usually from rescue attempt, make him look far older than he actually is. He's a dark color that can only be called bronze in direct sunlight, but no one would mistake this huge beast for a brown, even in the dark. Personality: Coriolith is a gentle dragon, far more understanding of weaknesses and limitations than his rider. He has a firm grasp of threadfall tactics, better than most dragons, and a better time sense as well. |
