FACTS TO KNOW ABOUT MAKAHA BEACH...

Makaha Beach is a surf break located on the west side of the Hawaiian island-O'ahu.  Makaha is basically a reef break with a dominate right face (depending on the direction of the swell, however, there may sometimes be some unreal lefts)  The waves there range from the perfect swells of 2-4 during the spring and summer season to 6-8 plus waves during the winter season.  Though the waves may seem mellow due to the slow speed of its break compared to other beaches, the waves here are like those in the North Shore.  It is very powerful and should not be taken lightly.

Because it is located on the west side of the island, Makaha would not be a very good recommended area for tourists and or beginners.  Over the years many tourists' cars have been broken into or stolen.  The beach itself is also a protected area by its people.  The closeness of the people may remind you of somewhat like a family, where if you mess with one , you end up messing with everybody.  However, as a child growing up, we, the Titas, have found this beach to be an ideal location to be raised, being protected and cared for by all the "uncles" and "aunties".

Makaha is also the home to many well-known surfers such as our role models, Rusty Keaulana and Rell Sunn.  The perfect waves here allow us to practice many different maneuvers so that we may be ready and prepared in time for our upcoming competitions.  Ideally, Makaha is an excellent break for longboarders however, shortboarding and bodyboarding are also surfed there as well.
